Hey, I'm Sara.
Everyone at school knows me. I'm not popular, but I'm known for being very openly bisexual. Literally everyone knows that.
I won homecoming and prom queen this year, and it's a crown I'll wear half-embarrassed, and half-proud of for the rest of my life.
I have blonde hair and blue eyes, and I'm pretty small for a high school junior, about 5'2. I'm a trained martial artist, with a black belt. I'm also a gymnast and dancer, but I quit last year to focus on school. Besides, it's not like I'll be on the gymnastics or dance team at Pomona next year.
My best friend is Annabeth Chase, who I met in my English class freshman year. She has ADHD and dyslexia, but she's a genius, and definitely the prettiest girl in school, with her blonde hair and grey eyes.
She also has a boyfriend who lives in New York named Percy Jackson, who, based on pictures I've seen, could literally be the son of Poseidon. Then again, that picture of him with her at the ocean really made him look like a water god.
Okay, I know what you're thinking.
And no, I don't have a crush on Annabeth. Everyone assumes that, since apparently I'm a very flirty person.
Seriously, I've won "most flirty" in our class superlatives every year for the past two years. The yearbooks for this year are coming out today, and if I get it again, I'm not sure if I'll celebrate or scream.
Anyway, this year, there's been a huge debate on who'll win "best couple" in the yearbook. In my opinion, if Percy went here, he'd probably win it with Annabeth.
So far the contenders are all a secret. Basically, how it works is, you walk up to the tables that are taking votes, and write in your vote for "best couple". Then you put it in the voting box, and at the end of the voting session, which ended three months ago, the leadership class will count everything and send it to the yearbook crew.
Everything will be announced today, when they hand out the yearbooks. So you can see how excited everyone is.
"Sara!!" Annabeth comes flying down the hall. "Did you get me any coffee?"
I turn to her, keeping a hand on my locker door. "Good morning to you too, Annabeth."
"Morning. Did you get me any?" Annabeth seems very on-edge.
"Uh, did you already have coffee?" I look at the time on my phone. "It's seven fifteen in the morning. How much did you drink?"
Annabeth shakes her head. "None, I was just up all night, so I had a few energy bars." She seems to say the last words carefully.
"Why were you up all night? You don't have any assignments, do you? It's the last week of school."
Red creeps into her cheeks. "I was calling Percy."
"Oh." I laugh, and pull out the flat white I got for Annabeth this morning. "Here."
"Thanks." Annabeth holds it in her hand, and opens her locker, which is next to mine. "So, what'd you do last night?"
