For every purpose, there is a calling. No man ever found himself where the Gods wanted him without some sign, be it interpreted or physical, to guide him along his way. Throughout history, these have been seen in the deaths of family, or in the untimely fall of a once-great house. As horrific as these incidents appear on their own, removed from any spiritual significance, they only grow in importance when one consider the divine necessity of such an incident.
For what sheep willingly offers itself to the belly of the farmer, that he and his family may eat? It takes a strong set of teeth and a furious passion to drive that sheep unto its destiny, for once we have seen what the Gods require of us, who are we but simple animals, bleating in the face of fear?
Mock not the wolf, then, for he does what we are only too cowardly to admit to.
- Father A.G. Bele, to the Lady Eilonwy Van Wyk, 1384
