"I just wish we'd be more than friends, though."

Jay looks up at the ceiling above his bed with a blank look. In a few seconds, he closes his eyes as he lets out a deep sigh before he sits up on his bed. Suddenly, he grabs his head in between his hands and lets out an exasperated shout as he bows his head, regret forming inside him.

"Aish, what was I even thinking saying that?!" he scolds himself as he scratches his head, almost pulling his hair out in the process. "She probably doesn't want to be friends with me anymore..."

Another sigh escapes him before he plops himself back onto his bed, staring once again at the ceiling.

What did she think about what I said, though?

...

"Ah! Why-" you shout annoyingly as someone suddenly places an arm around your shoulder, almost pushing you off balance, and you turn to the person to see Jay smiling playfully at you. "Yah! Can you stop that?! Do you know how close you always are to pushing me to the ground?" you ask him, thoroughly annoyed.

"Aw, come on, now. You're getting worried over the simplest things," Jay tells you, that playful smile still on his face, as the both of you continue walking down the hall. "And even if you did lose balance, I'd catch you before you even hit the ground."

At the end of his sentence, you immediately turn to him with your eyes narrowed and your brows furrowed, looking at him as if he were crazy. "Get your arm off my shoulder," you tell him straight out.

"I don't want to," he replies as he looks ahead and continues walking without even moving his arm on your shoulder.

"Yah! Jay!" you shout at him after trying several times to remove his arm yourself but repeatedly failing because of his stubbornness. "Listen to me for once, will ya?"

At this, the boy shrugs then eventually removes his arm from your shoulder. "Alright, then."

You let out a thankful and exasperated sigh after he does that, only for you to be surprised once again when you feel a hand taking yours. "Yaaaa-"

"What? Even this isn't allowed?" Jay asks you, cutting off your annoyed yell as he looks at you with his playful smile returning, squeezing your hand in the process.

You give him an annoyed look. "People will think we're a couple."

"They already do."

A confused look then forms on your face. "How would you know that?"

Jay shrugs. "I hear them."

A smirk then forms on your face before a laugh escapes you. "Didn't know you were such a gossip."

Surprisingly, this time, Jay looks at you with an annoyed look. "Hey, I'm not like that, okay? I just happened to hear the students talking about us while I was passing by."

"Mm-hmm," you reply, your tone making you sound unconvinced. Meanwhile, inside you, you feel a tingling feeling but you hide it as the both of you continue walking down the hall to your classroom.

...

You and Jay were never really anything at all to each other. You weren't a couple, nor were you even friends. The both of you only started "hanging out" occasionally when you would run into each other at school (or when Jay approaches you in the most annoying ways he could think of), and eventually, things became really casual between the two of you.

And yet, neither of you really know what you are to the other. Just a classmate? A friend? What if it was more than that?

Meanwhile, as Jay continued to bother you, never agreeing to leave your side except during classes or when the both of you aren't in school anymore, you eventually found yourself being more drawn to him. You tell yourself that it's just you wanting to be friends with him, but if that wasn't really the case?
