Chapter 58 - Familiar

"That woman just now.."

"Shit" Was all that left her mouth

People around her began shoving each other, continuing to run for their lives. Arms crushed, legs fractured and faces stepped on. People's panic-striken screeches filled the air - it was a catastrophe

A single blow from the titan caused many boulders to hurl above them, massacring dozens of children and civilians. Weak groans were heard from the mutilated, whilst others expelled their very last breath before succumbing to their injuries

Despite seeing the titan go after the high military officials, she spared no second and rushed to where Colt stood. He was trying wake up Gabi, Udo, and - except for Zofia, who's already dead from a boulder

"Udo wake up" She shuddered his shoulders to wake the young man

"Lieutenant Colonel, I'll take care of them" Assured Colt "Please go and find the rest of the warriors"

Dahlia immediately left, struggling her way out of the toppling mob of civilians. She wore her helmet, and rested a shotgun on the shoulder as she began to look around for them

Luckily, she found Pieck and Porco together. She approached them and angrily stated "Get your asses moving morons. We're on lookout just in case more of them comes in"

"Miss Klein?" Porco gasped, looking at her with a look of shock "You're really joining us to fight this time?"

Dahlia scoffs "I didn't go through some shit for years to refuse no?"

Pieck smiled, and he showed a look of satisfaction on his face. The Lieutenant told them all about the situation, the warhammer and attack titan. But since she didn't know their true intentions yet, she kept all her other thoughts inside

"Wait, I know now" Dahlia held her arm up, stating "Their huge attack titan went straight for Calvi once he ate Mr. Tybur, so I'm assuming they're targeting the high rankers to delay.... our... attack on Paradis"

"And-" "To slaughter War Chief?"

Dahlia slowly nodded to Pieck in agreement, before sharing to them her plan. Midway on her explanation, the same zooming sound she heard before came back

The two of them were left agape, realizing what it was. But Dahlia only furrowed her eyebrows at it

"No way, it couldn't be" Pieck gaped

Dahlia stated "They're executing their grand entrance, but it looks like we'll have to ruin it for them"

"Damn it, those devils just had to ruin everything" Porco clenched

"Tsk, so much for that festival" She rolled her eyes "You guys ensure War Chief's safety, I'll fight alone"

Before Dahlia rushed into the distance, Pieck shouts out her name once more. The Lieutenant boringly looked over her shoulder

"We'll trust you" She smiled faintly

Dahlia bluntly spoke "Not needed"

She left their side, began walking on her own. When she finally got up the roofs, she loaded her gun and followed her senses. As soon as she spotted a person in gray uniform, Dahlia knocked him out from behind and equipped his gear

"All I have to do is aim then pull it, seems easy" She clicks her tongue

"Don't forget the guide lights, we have to install them everywhere"

When three soldiers took out the lights, the sound of emitting gas came closer and closer. It made the group of them avert their attention

Judging from the soldier's usage of maneuver gear, they thought she was one of them - but they realize that her uniform wasn't alike, and saw the guns she directed at them

"Sasha watch out!" The boy pulled the her down, and the three scouts behind a chimney's broad exterior

A series of heavy shots fired, and the sound of blood splattering was heard right behind them. It caused the three to tremble in fear when bullets dashed on their line of view

The two gape in fear as five of their people died just like that. Sasha mumbled "A single soldier did all this? Connie, w-who was that girl?"

Connie gawked horrifyingly at the toppled down corpses "If she was an enemy, how does she have the same gear with us? N-no, how does she even know how to use one??"

Once the flying figure came into view again, they couldn't even pull out their weapons in time so they covered each other as a last resort. Another bullet fired, but none of them got shot. Her shadow fleed away into the dark distance again

Jean grunted "Darn it, that scum blasted a bag of our guide lights"

The Lieutenant was ordered to keep things in charge outside the plaza. She was annoyed by the fact that she wasn't able to go into battle, but it was the Captain's orders after all. She stood outside the medical center, where countless of dying and the dead were laying outside its closed doors

"Dead" Colt spoke in a low voice as he approached her, saying that Udo didn't make it "I put a cloth on him"

"Do you think you can manage alone, Colt?" Dahlia asked him

He raised an eyebrow confusingly, assuming she had a plan since she was reloading her weapons again

"Are you planning something?"

"I'm gonna find Falco and Gabi"

"Can I come with you?" "Nope."

Giving the man no chance to argue back, Dahlia stormed further and began to look for the boy. One of her main duties was to ensure the safety of the warriors candidates. She didn't even know where to find Falco, let alone that reckless girl - Where's that annoying moron? Tsk

A deafening explosion came from the plaza - not that of a titan, but a detonation of something. Dahlia clenched the gun in her hand and swiftly ran to the area. When she arrived, there she saw Pieck, wounded on top of her mutilated titan body. Her attempt to help her was interposed when more arrived

They're trying to obtain Pieck for their titan Dahlia squinted her eyes angrily at the thought, and used the gear to charge up to their level

"Gabi! Hurry up and get Pieck out of here!" Dahlia yelled for them to hear, and watched them bring the injured woman in, before charging

She dodged the bullets fired by her troops as she dashed through the air, using her blades to slice their limbs off. But soon enough, she heard someone growling as they swung to her. The unexpected pressure caught the Lieutenant off guard as they both landed on the roofs with a strong, stinging thud

The man hovers over her body, but Dahlia overpowered him by terms of physical strength. She lifted his back around, easily straddling him to finish him off. She drew a blade out of the gear, glowering at the quivering soldier before slashing

"W-wait, you...."

His eyes caught hers for a brief moment, widening at the first second he looked at her. The expression made Dahlia stop her blade midway in the air. But only a second later, she angrily grunted at him as she hurriedly jumped off the roof to escape the approaching troops of Survey Corps beside him

"Jean! Are you okay?" Yelled a girl

Physically he was okay - but her. Jean looked over his shoulder to assure them, but once he turned back, she was gone. He stood up and began glancing around, eyes widen and his heart pounding hard

"W-where did s-she go?"

"Who?" Connie grunted

"That woman who left just now... seemed awfully f-familiar to me"
