Campbell's mouth was hot against hers, the kiss a mess of sliding tongues and biting lips. Her body, held comfortably between his arms, was warm and soft, melting to be flush against him with every touch and gasp for breath.

They were doing their best to be quiet, but Campbell couldn't help the soft sound of yearning he made as she tugged herself closer to him.

"Shhh," she whispered gently, putting a finger to his lips. He moved her hand off his mouth to kiss her again, each brush of his lips far hungrier than the last. "Campbell. Campbell, stop. Slow down, darling." She brushed her hand through his hair. "Not yet."

"Rhia," he breathed, "you are going to be the death of me." He moved to her neck, but his lips only barely came into contact with her skin before she gently pushed him away. Leaving visible marks was definitely not an option in a mental hospital.

"If the nurses see—"

"To hell with the nurses," Campbell grumbled, even though he knew he wasn't entirely in his right mind. He never was when he came inches from having Rhiannon, only for her to push him away. Not that he blamed her. He hardly wanted the mental hospital to be their first place to make love, where they had to hush each other and be as still as possible, but when he was this close to her in the dark... Oh, it was more than tempting.

"Cam, you promised," she whispered. "You promised we'd wait until we're out."

Campbell's grip on her tightened as he realized at last how much trouble they were going to be in if someone saw them. Not only would Rhiannon get in trouble for sneaking into bed with him, he'd be skinned alive for being on top of her, fully clothed or not.

As much as he'd like to drag her into a bathroom and make it work standing up...

He curled up on his side. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I...I didn't realize..."

"Don't apologize, Campbell," Rhiannon whispered. "I get it, I really do. But not yet." Her fingertips gently caressed his face. "Soon, darling."

Campbell kissed her one last time. "You should get back to your own bed before someone realizes you're gone," he said. "I don't want you to get in trouble for being up."

"If anyone says anything," she said, shrugging and slipping out of his bed, "then I'm dealing with womanly problems in the bathroom."

"They'll check that statement you know," he reminded her, even as he laughed at her roguish grin.

Rhiannon shrugged again. "I'm due in a few days. It's reasonable."

"Let me know when it comes so I can give you as much chocolate as possible and then run," Campbell said. Rhiannon laughed and kissed his cheek. "Night, Rhia."

"See you in the morning," she whispered as she left.

Three Years Later...

Rhiannon was waiting for him when he walked out of St. Jude's for good, just a few months after her. He beamed at her as she opened her arms. He ran into them, collapsing into her hold. Campbell was reminded strongly of the various nights spent in her arms, wishing they were free.

"We're out, Rhia," Campbell whispered.

She laughed, beaming at him. "We're out of here! Come on, get in the car, you've gotta see the flat I found us."

"Us? We're staying together?"

"Of course we are, Cam," Rhiannon said. "Did you think I'd ditch you the moment I got out of there?"

"Well..."

"Campbell," she said warmly, taking his hand, "all those nights sleeping side by side meant something. You're still my darling."

He beamed at her and leaned over, kissing her long and sweet. Neither cared that the nurses were all watching from the windows. (In fact, most of the nurses had known about them sneaking out to see each other at night and just hadn't stopped them, finding them too cute to separate. Now they were just glad the pair could be together without trying to hide.)

"Have you told Eddie yet?"

Campbell shook his head. "I'm gonna visit later today and let him know." He kissed her again. "I've missed you."

She brushed her hand through his hair, pushing it away from his face. "Trust me, I know. I get it. But we're together now."

Campbell was quiet for a bit as Rhiannon drove them away from St. Jude's, bringing him further into Glasgow to the flat she'd rented for them. At a stop light, he glanced over at her. "Hey, Rhia?"

"Mmm?"

"Wanna get married?"

Rhiannon's eyes went wide. "Are...are you proposing to me in a car, at a stop light?"

"Yes."

She beamed. "That is so you, Cam." She squeezed his hand. "Let's get married, Campbell Bain."

Almost a Year Later...

Campbell kissed his wife of almost ten hours, climbing over her. He grinned down at her. "Hello, wife."

She brushed his hair behind his ear and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Hi."

He nuzzled into her, holding her close. He kissed her neck and leaned back to admire the mark he left, brushing fingers over it. "Remember all those nights together when I practically begged you to take my virginity?"

Rhiannon laughed. "That's a mild way of putting it, but yes."

"Now that it's here, I'm terrified."

"Don't be," she soothed, holding him to her body. He snuggled into her shoulder. "It's our wedding night. It's meant to be the first try, it doesn't have to be perfect."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. We've got the rest of our lives to figure it all out, Cam. This is just step one."

Campbell grinned and sat up, pulling his shirt off. "Well, here's to step one!"
