"Wait; wait; wait!" Austin managed in disbelief. "Could you repeat that?? Tutoring?? You??"

"I already regret telling you this..." Jake sighed.

"Details! Now!" Austin instructed. "Which class?? Who's the victim??"

"Medina's," Jake replied. "The Tucker kid."

That got Austin's attention. The 'Tucker kid' was Lance Tucker; star of the school's gymnastics team who mostly kept to himself.

"You gonna break him out of his shell??" Austin asked. "You know; rumor has it that the last one to try went mad."

"My sanity's been dangling by that final thread since I became friends with you," Jake replied. "I think I'm safe."

'Cause I-I-I'm in the stars tonight
So watch me bring the fire and set the night alight

 "Lance??"

The boy looked up from where he was reading in the quad.

"You must be Jake..." he noted with a small smile.

"That's me," Jake nodded. He smiled when he saw the Starbuck's cup. "A fellow addict; I see."

"Guilty," Lance chuckled.

"Good to know," Jake nodded, making a mental note. "We could make that a regular thing. Part of the tutoring session."

"I'd like that," Lance smiled.

Shoes on, get up in the morn'
Cup of milk, let's rock and roll
King Kong, kick the drum, rolling on like a Rolling Stone
Sing song when I'm walking home
Jump up to the top, LeBron
Ding dong, call me on my phone
Ice tea and a game of ping pong

"Oooh; the Egyptian unit..." Jake cringed. "No wonder you needed help..."

"History isn't really my best subject," Lance confessed. "I mean; with art, music, and gymnastics; I actually know what I'm doing. With this... I've actually gotten panic-induced nosebleeds."

"No judgement," Jake promised. "Let me know when you end up tossing your breakfast during the PSATs. I've heard that happens."

This is getting heavy
Can you hear the bass boom? I'm ready (woo hoo)
Life is sweet as honey
Yeah, this beat cha-ching like money, huh
Disco overload, I'm into that, I'm good to go
I'm diamond, you know I glow up
Hey, so let's go

It was only day one; but Lance was quickly becoming comfortable with Jake.

"I think that's enough for today," Jake said with a smile. "Pick this up tomorrow? Maybe we could do some studying over lunch. We have the same lunch hour."

"I... I'd like that," Lance admitted.

'Cause I-I-I'm in the stars tonight
So watch me bring the fire and set the night alight (hey)
Shining through the city with a little funk and soul
So I'ma light it up like dynamite, whoa oh oh

"Shit..." Lance groaned. "I'm never gonna get this..."

"It's okay," Jake assured him. "Look... I pulled up the info on the legend of Osiris. You can use this."

"Really??" Lance managed.

Jake nodded. "It's actually really cool."

Lance smiled; slipping it into his binder.

Bring a friend, join the crowd
Whoever wanna come along
Word up, talk the talk
Just move like we off the wall
Day or night the sky's alight
So we dance to the break of dawn
Ladies and gentlemen, I got the medicine
So you should keep ya eyes on the ball, huh
