Geralt had not slept for three days straight, he was sure he was starting to lose his mind and would soon go crazy from thinking and thinking and thinking. It was hell, he was living hell on earth with his mind racing, wondering what that dream meant. Was she in a cold place? Or was she being tortured with water? She knew that Letus had already done this, tortured her with water, he still remembered perfectly the day he found Hestia swimming for the first time in years, laughing because she had finally conquered her fear of water. In the dream, the water was cold, icy, freezing, it could very well be a torture method created by Letus to diminish Hestia's power, since the cold water in contrast to the fire that consumed the woman from within.
Ok, so he was right, Hestia was not safe, she had not started life again and she was not dead, well she might as well be now, being pulled into the darkness like that deeper and deeper and colder, he didn't know how much longer she would have. He couldn't look at his own reflection, he was sure, so was Ciri, but she wasn't, who knows where she was, but he knew she was suffering and it tortured him, he felt useless, a plague that should be extinguished from the face of the earth, he should have stayed with her, not entered the fucking portal, he should have fought beside her, even if it meant his death, he would sacrifice himself for her without a second thought. But no, he had to feel the weight of responsibility for his promises, he had to have his conscience screaming that Ciri was just a little girl, fragile and bound to him by fate, god damn motherfucking fate, how he hated the damn thing, he didn't know how to be a father, he barely knew how to be a being with social skills, it surprised him that he was doing better than expected with this whole parenthood side of things.
