"But what happened to dad?"
"I just dealt with him. Ok? Don't worry."
Billy looked up to me with uncertainty in his non swollen eye.
"He's never going to hurt you again." I gave him a smile and stood up. "C'mon we gotta go."
"You killed him didn't you."
"Billy, we got to go." I said, thinking of Kyle and Emma still downstairs.
"He made me like this."
I bent down again and looked at him, unable to say anything. He didn't need to gesture to his face for me to know what he was talking about. I stared at him and the lone tear that fell down his bruised cheek, until I felt my own tears threatening to spill over.
I stood up and held my hand out for him to take. "We don't have much time. We have to go."
He looked up at me once more before wiping the tear away and taking my hand. "How are we going to save them?"
I touched the gun that was in the waistband of my pants, to make sure it was still there. "Don't worry, and I'll be the one doing the saving."
"Like you saved me?"
We had finally made it to the basement door. I bent down to his eye level and gave him a smile. "Wait right here for me, ok? I'm going to go get them and bring them back up here."
Once he nodded, I took the gun out and opened the basement door. I walked onto the first step and closed the door as quietly as possible behind me. On my way down the stairs, I tried my best to go slowly and quietly, but the house was old and it was impossible to stop the creaking. So I just took a deep breath and walked down the rest of the steps, not caring about how loud it was.
"We were wondering what took you so lon-"
I held the gun up and aimed it at the mass of masked bodies. "I'm taking Emma and Kyle, and we're going to walk out of here. If you make even the slightest of movements, I will pull this trigger like I had with your friend." Doll mask took a very small step. "Oh, you don't think I will? When we leave you can go see the bloody mess that was once your friend." I then looked directly at my friends. "Emma, Kyle lets go."
Emma wiped her tears away and then they both got up and made their way over to me. I held the gun pointing at all the masked murderers until Kyle and Emma made it to the top stairs. Once they were at the top I walked up the stairs slowly, still pointing my gun at the people down the stairs.
Kyle opened the door and slipped out, Emma following right behind him.
"Hazel c'mon." Emma whispered from my left.
I looked away from the masked people and ran the rest of the way up the stairs. Kyle closed the door and locked it, once I was through. I could just make out chatter coming from downstairs and then people starting to go up the stairs.
"Did you get the boy?" Kyle asked.
"I'm here." Billy replied, walking around a corner. "I opened the front door so we could get out easily."
Emma jumped at the sight of Billy's face, but then anger replaced her features right after. Just like I had.
"We have to go." I said.
Bang, Bang, Bang
We all jumped at the sound of the masked people banging against the basement door. I had no idea how long that door was gonna hold for.
"C'mon."
I reached down and grabbed Billy's hand and we raced towards the front door, Emma and Kyle following not too far behind. Once outside, we closed the door shut and then I turned around and had to stop.
"Where are we?" Kyle asked.
