Because if they learned she sneaks out during nighttime to go to gatherings with her friends, she'd be dead, no funeral just dead. After she thanked her mother she shortly left her office and went back to what she was doing previously which was......

Planning on Sneaking out, again. This night. Makoto was invited by one of her friends to attend a gathering. Makoto being Makoto, she of course planned everything. She always had to has a plan before anything happens. Her friends kept on wondering why she couldn't just ask consent from her oh-so-lovely parents, well yeah... That was the point, they wouldn't permit her to. Since she's always sheltered and kept safe, being the only girl in the clan, of course, they wouldn't let this go to waste. Makoto knows her parents just want the best for her. But knowing Makoto, she can be very, very, very! Persistent.
Yes, she is certainly hard-headed, but Makoto was taught how to honor her elders and behave towards them with proper care, but her father and mother told her that if they are wrong, don't hesitate to correct them, but nicely. If the elder would be throwing a tantrum you need to talk back if you know what you said was right, never hesitate to stand up for yourself and other people if you know you are on the right side. If you want to be honored, honor others too, Makoto.
