Bucky's POV

I'm anxious, my foot tapping against the jet floor. T'Challa had one of his pilots bring us to the new Avengers compound. And as we got closer to our destination my anxiety worsened. Sam had been unusually quiet the whole ride. Even before then, the moment I left Shuri's lab with a new updated arm. The old one being a constant reminder of HYDRA, destroyed, Sam was already quiet. No sarcastic remarks to the arm, no funny jokes. I could see anxiety in him as well, and I wondered if he was just excited to return to a normal life.

When the jet touched down, I practically jumped from my seat. Partly from my nerves that I needed to move, to do something. And partly because deep down I had this need to see her. To hold her. To beg for forgiveness.

Sam stood from his seat and stood next to me, again unusually quiet. "What's wrong with you? You've been way too quiet."

"Huh? Nothin... just glad to be back home. That's all." Sam said as the jet door began to open. The moment he could he quickly slipped out of the jet before me. Something felt off, but I shrugged it off.

Walking off the jet I see him finishing a hug with Steve, and then without looking back walking into the compound. I hadn't talked to Steve since I left, and a smile warmed my face as I approached him.

"Steve!" I say taking him in for a bear hug. He chuckles lightly and hugs me back.

"It's good to have you back Buck. Come on. Let me take you inside." He says as we break the hug. Holding my shoulder, he leads me into the new compound. "Tell me about Wakanda..."

I fill him in on the therapy, on how I have finally come to terms with my past. How I am ready to move forward with my life. As I finish filling him in, we came to stop in a living area, where I can see Natasha and Sam.

Steve nods at me to take a seat as Natasha smiles at me and welcomes me back. I noticed that a few key people were missing. Tony. Bruce. Thor. And my angel. But I had a feeling she would be the last person I saw today; she was probably avoiding me. Yet I couldn't help myself from asking, "where's everybody else?"

Steve took a seat next to Natasha, his hands reaching for hers. I was proud and happy for my friend, finally after so long, to have found someone to love. But he looked upset as he held her hand, as if something was wrong.

All of a sudden, I got a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I never knew how the battle with Ultron ended. Had we lost people? Did I lose my doll? Panic must have been evident in my face because Steve cleared his throat to get my attention.

"A lot has happened since you left Buck..." His words brought me no relief. They seemed to carry a dark weight to them. But I couldn't respond, a ball caught in my throat.

"It's easier to just show you. FRIDAY please show the footage from the Battle against Ultron." Steve spoke.

A holograph appeared in front of us, the sight leaving me completely baffled. It looked like a city, a chunk of it anyways, floating in the air. "Wha..." I managed to get out. But everyone just kept watching the image play out quietly.

I saw battles in the air, in the ground. Robots everywhere. The team fighting. Then a huge helicarrier and a massive mission to get people out of the floating rock. Thankfully everyone looked fine and accounted for. I could see my doll fighting and it brought my heart to a stop when I saw the girl that had messed with my mind on the field. My heart stopped and I shot a look of worry to Steve. He noticed my reaction and said, "she was fighting with us. We have a couple of new people on the team. But I thought it would be best if you didn't see them right away."

I nodded. I wouldn't have reacted kindly to seeing her right off the bat. Steve always knew what was best. I continued to watch the images as everyone started leaving the rock. The only one that remained was (Y/N). But she was different. She looked as if she was on fire. All of a sudden, the ran off the rock, and I reacted. I jumped off the chair I was sitting in and screamed her name. Steve was right next to me, his hand on my shoulder bringing me back to the chair, "keep looking" he said softly his eyes never leaving the images.
