Chapter sixty-six; Mother f

The best feeling in the summer is the one when you can wake up whenever you want without much duty throughout the day and you can be lazy however much you want. When Jasmine flickered her eyes open she had to blink a couple of times to remember where she was. Her eyes trained on the clock on the wall, which she recognised as her own in her room. The time showed the middle of the afternoon and only then it all came back to her what she was doing. She was home alone for the better part of the day and she had a bit of fun by baking with Tinker and Tasha in the kitchen before all three of them ate a big lunch and Jasmine crashed in her bed to take a nap.

It apparently was such a great nap she completely forgot where she was. She picked herself up in slow motions knowing that if she won't she'll fall right back to sleep. She thought that this was her way of filling up every lost minute of sleep when she's at Hogwarts, by sleeping through the whole summer. She planned to visit Robyn very soon, they exchanged a bunch of letters, but she had to find a perfect time to ask her dad. Because when she'll go, she won't be back for at least a week, taking as much time for this as she could.

On the other hand, she hated to leave her mum at home alone with dad and William. It all made sense now why Mrs Pearson has been working long hours at the publishing house, to be as least home as possible. Jasmine heard light chatter as she descended the stairs and she quickly realised it was coming from the dining room. A smile tugged at her lips at the sound of her mum's voice.

Jasmine pushed the door to the dining area open and her eyes first landed on her mum who was sitting at the end of the table and a black woman to the right of her facing each other and talking. Jasmine stepped in so quietly the two continued to talk undisturbed until Jasmine spoke up.

"Aunt Talisa." A smile broke out on her features.

Mrs Pearson and Talisa stopped talking and then both turned to the door. "Jasmine," Talisa said back with a smile so big it could rival the one on Jasmine. She stood up from her place at the table and stepped closer to Jasmine. "Look at you, what a fine young lady you've become. It's been too long since I last saw you!" Talisa brought Jasmine in for a tight hug.

Jasmine chuckled into her shoulder and nodded in agreement. Talisa, or aunt Talisa as Jasmine liked to call her, was Mrs Pearson's best friend. Jasmine got accustomed to seeing Talisa almost every day for a long time when she was younger and she loved the woman, in other words, she really was her aunt. But it's been some years since she last saw her, being at Hogwarts for most of the year and whenever her mum met up with her friend they always went out.

"It's good to see you." Jasmine released from the hug.

She took a good look at the woman and picking up on the details she knew are different since the last time she saw her. The dreads that Talisa used to have were gone and even though they made her very cool, the beautiful curls she has now suited her a lot as well. On the other hand, she didn't look like she aged one day, similar to Jasmine's mum since they were the same age. Jasmine moved so she could sit down next to her mum.

''You two look like sisters, not mother and daughter.'' Talisa complimented as she took a seat again.

Jasmine looked at her mum and Mrs Pearson did the same looking at her daughter when they both smiled at each other. Similar hair and eye colour really did make them look a lot alike. Jasmine thanked whoever was above that she didn't take after her dad.

''To get on with the story...'' Talisa continued to talk and Mrs Pearson turned back to her to listen.

Jasmine zoned out from listening to them and rather checked closely on her mum. Mrs Pearson was wearing her usual blouse that covered up all of her arms as well as any injury that there could be. Jasmine doesn't remember when was the last time she saw her mum in something that didn't have long sleeves. The bruise on the cheek was gone, thanks to a charm that erased that immediately. It may not be seen on the outside but it is deeply engraved into Jasmine's brain without anything to fix it. A small smile still played on her lips as she heard the two older women laugh about something. She loved their dynamic and telling by some pictures that her mum showed her, the two were best friends since Hogwarts.
