Chapter one; The Robin Hood

A bag full of heavy books was slinging off of Jasmine's shoulder. It was so full she even had to carry a few of the heavier ones in her arms, making her incapable of making any sudden movements, lest she wanted everything to scatter on the floor.
The library was filled to the brim with students sitting literally shoulder to shoulder in order to squeeze in all the tables. It seemed everyone wanted to start their year off right, studying hard in the beginning and not start lagging behind their work so early. Which then meant Jasmine had no space to sit and do her work either.
She wanted to be like them, the good students, the smart ones, the top of the class. She said to herself every year that she would start studying early and she never did. Every goddamn year. All the books she was currently carrying could speak differently of her sixth year so far, yet it was still a totally false vibe. Jasmine tried all she might and she still had a tendency to fall asleep after a few lines of any book. It didn't matter if the book was material for a class or if it was fiction, she just didn't find reading books fun. Distracted or bored or fallen asleep, that's how she always ended up being.
On the other hand, listening to someone read out of a book, now that was a totally different situation. She could listen to one of her friends or her mum read a story for hours on end and enjoyed it quite much.
Her green eyes switched from staring at the closed door of the library to the books she held in her arms and then back at the door. Somehow she had no way of escaping the crowded library even with the borrowed literature.
"Why do I do this to myself?" Jasmine murmured. Why does she do it to herself when she knows, somewhere deep back in a corner of her brain that this year is going to be no different?
"Sorry?" asked someone right beside her.
Jasmine startled, which caused a book to slip through her arms and crash on the ground with a very loud splat. An immediate 'shh' sounded from many of the tables nearby as well as Madame Pince, who on top of that added a nasty glare in Jasmine's way. Jasmine cringed at the sound and then finally looked at the person standing next to her.
Remus Lupin was clad in his school uniform, red and golden tie underneath a black sweater. He stood just a tad bit taller than Jasmine, so if she wanted to look into his green eyes she had to raise her chin a little. His eyebrows were slightly raised, an innocent expression throughout the rest of his features as he held out a book. Jasmine only then realized it was the book that she dropped and he was offering it back to her.
"Oh, thanks." She whispered, afraid if she raised her voice even a tiny bit more Madam Pince would ban her from the library. Which in Jasmine's case wouldn't even be the end of the world.
"Were you saying something before?" Remus whispered as well.
"Just talking to myself." Jasmine cringed again at how that sentence sounded spoken aloud.
Remus didn't seem to find it weird at all. His eyes glanced at the closed library door. "Do you need help?"
"That would be –" Jasmine didn't even get to finish her sentence as Remus already jumped to the door and held it open for her. "Thank you." She smiled quickly. "See you at the prefect's meeting or something."
Before Remus could reply, Jasmine turned around with her light brown hair swishing behind her and speed-walked away, cursing under her own breath for managing to embarrass herself. Remus wasn't entirely unknown to her as she wasn't unknown to him, courtesy of their mutual friend Lily Evans. However, they didn't really work as a trio since Lily and Remus found studying a good enough reason to hang out and Jasmine wanted other things.
