Endangered animals are important to at least acknowledge. Humans like us always make mistakes, or do things on purpose not knowing what they will cause. Some acts cause animals to die off. Once they are very low in numbers they are endangered and when all gone extinct. When humans realise a population is dying off but not endangered yet they are threatened, meaning they are in danger of being endangered in the future. It is very important we do put the animals in these categories so that they are known, and can be acknowledged and later helped. In other cases, we do so to acknowledge the animals and for people to know to help them. This endangered essay is on Pangolins.
Pangolins look as if they are reptiles. They have scales all over and are fuzzy on open skin. These creatures are actually mammals and are one of the most trafficked animals too!! Pangolins weigh about 4-5 lbs. and vary from 12-39 inches! Pangolins are not one to be differ from gender to gender, the only differences are the obvious gender differences for birth ect.
Pangolins live in the savannas and grasslands of Africa and Asia. In Africa, Asia and other areas where Pangolins live there are estimated to be about 300,000 Indian Pangolins. Pangolins are actually one of the most unknown endangered species in the population!! In captivity it's even worse! But scientists do know that Pangolins are endangered because of the little found in the wild and how hard it is for explorers to find them.
When it comes to food Pangolins eat ants and termites. They get the food using their tongues like anteaters, and only use their tongues instead of tools or hands. However the thing that eats Pangolins, are tigers and other big cats in the area. These predators are one of the only things that can because they can hold through the Pangolins strong ball form, ( more on that later ). Although Pangolins are not key to the chain because the predators can eat others, and lots of things eat their food.
The whole reason why our little friends are endangered is that lots of people in China and Vietnam will kill them. These people will kill Pangolins for their meat as a delicacy, and their scales for medicine. People will also kill Pangolins for their scales for clothing too, they will make shirts out of the scales and will sell or use them as armor.
Pangolins are important not for human reasons, just simply because Pangolins play a part in our great world. You can help by making it illegal to kill pangolins and you can tell your country to do so if not already done. Many people have also made charities and fundraisers to help conservation organizations for pangolins. So you could also donate to those charities and help in the fundraisers. So far scientists have tried to help Pangolins by doing everything they can to help, now it's your turn. Donate and fundraise for a simple cause.... To save Pangolins and help our world.
