Maria's POV
Once home I found myself sitting at my laptop, I didn’t plan on doing it and I obviously knew that Michael had nothing to do with Judy’s death. But I couldn’t just ignore the fact that Sam thought he had killed Judy. I mean, I was sure no other human would just let it pass by.
I searched up Judy’s name and the date she had died. Many articles came up and I had a lot of time on my hands so decide to go through all of them. Most were just nice words said about her and then a short description of her accident.
As I scrolled through the endless articles about Judy and her accident I suddenly came across one that caught my eye and attention.
In big black bold writing it said EX BOYFRIEND SUSPECTED OF GIRLFRIENDS MURDER. I froze.
Sam couldn’t possibly be telling the truth, right? I was afraid of scrolling down and reading the article but I couldn’t help myself. As I scrolled down a picture of Michael’s mug shot came into view.
For a second I only thought I was seeing things, this wasn’t Michael, it couldn’t have been. But the more I looked at it the more I knew that I wasn’t imagining this. It really was Michael. His hair was all over the place but it was his hair. His eyes were bloodshot but they were his. I felt scared, a wave of something cold washed over me. I felt my breathing increase and my heartbeat was going faster than ever. Michael wasn’t capable of this…
I scrolled down to the article and began reading.
‘’Michael Riley 23 was the prime suspect in the alleged accident. Judith Rose 22 was involved in a car collision and was killed instantly. The accident took place on the 28th of March at approximately ten pm. The forensic team have investigated the scene and have come to a conclusion that the accident was, in fact, not the cause of the young girls’ death.
According to the autopsy Judy had a lot of amiloride hydrochloridein in her system which is usually a drug people with High Blood Pressure take. If taken without a doctor’s prescription then it can be lethal.
An outside source had information that Michael had a high blood pressure and was seen with Judy early the same day of the accident.
Michael was taken into custody two days later as all evidence was pointing to him. The police investigators even found a motive to why Michael had wanted Judy dead.’’I stopped and rubbed my eyes, taking a deep breath to make sure that I was still conscious. I didn’t like reading this, I didn’t but I couldn’t stop myself from doing so.
‘’Michael was released a month later as new evidence had come up and the murder charges were dropped. Many were not happy about this news, especially the parents of Judy. According to the new evidence the reason behind the accident was that the other drive had been drunk and lost control. ‘’
Just as I finished reading I heard the front door open and close. I stopped breathing for a minute as I felt my blood go cold, who could this be? I removed my laptop from my lap and set it aside. I sat up on the bed and listened as someone entered my apartment. This wasn’t the best time for something like this to happen.
‘’Maria?’’ Suddenly Michael’s voice made me feel a lot more scared than I should have been.
‘’I’m in here’’ I called, feeling my voice shaking.
‘’Are you ok?’’ Michael asked as his voice got closer.
He opened the door and I wanted to run, but I wasn’t sure why. He wasn’t guilty, surely. I mean they dropped all charges and Judy’s death was an accident.
‘’Hey, you look really pale is everything alright?’’ He asked once he locked eyes with me.
I swallowed and nodded, forcing a smile.
‘’What are you doing home so early?’’ I asked but his eyes seemed to be looking behind me.
His expression grew dark and another wave of fear washed over me. I knew he could see my laptop behind me, I should have closed it.
‘’Maria’’ Michael’s voice was cold.
I turned to the laptop and shut it.
‘’Did you read it?’’ Michael asked, still staring at the now closed laptop.
I slowly stood up; as I felt that I was a lot more vulnerable sitting down. Why was I scared of my own fiancé? I knew he couldn’t have killed Judy… I was sure. Was I?
‘’I asked did you read it?’’ His voice seemed to grow quieter but that only frightened me more.
‘’ I did’’ I replied.
Michael shut his eyes and inhaled and exhaled through his nose.
‘’You didn’t believe that did you?’’ He asked.
Did I believe it? I didn’t quite know myself, but he was arrested right? That explained a lot, why he broke up with me and why he disappeared for so long. I tried to avoid his gaze. I didn’t know what to say, I was scared and I hated feeling like this.
I looked up and Michael who was suddenly standing in front of me. I didn’t feel comfortable. I didn’t like this one bit.
‘’Did you believe it?’’ He asked, almost whispering it. I could feel goosebumps appear on my bear arms. The ring on my ring finger suddenly felt so heavy, I thought it could pull my whole arm off.
‘’I…’’ I couldn’t speak because I didn’t know what I believed.
‘’DID YOU BELIEVE IT?’’ Michael shouted and raised his arm and I saw it coming at me but suddenly something hit the back of Michaels head and he began to fall towards me. I let out a scream and jumped out of the way and watched as he fell onto the bed. I looked up and saw Sam standing with a rolling pin, red faced and breathing heavily.
I didn’t even question how or why he was here; I suddenly burst into tears and Sam’s arms found their way around me.
