"Grandpa, who is that?" Fred said pointing at the Waynes'

"It would be better if your mother introduced them, young Master." Alfred replied promptly. "But grandpa! Mama won't say" he looked at the elder with big eyes.

The elder sighed. Alfred junior was just as stubborn as Owen was shy.

"The brooding man is Master Bruce. Beside him is Master Dick. The other brooding man with a white stripe is Mater Jason. The boy with the coffee cup is Master Tim. Master Duke's the one sitting on the table. The boy petting Titus is Master Damian. The ginger is-"

Somewhere along the introduction Fred lost interest, but as soon as he saw Titus he squealed in excitement and ran over to the big beautiful dog.

The Waynes' look at the boy in wonder, still shocked by the little boys' existence.

"He's a Noble Dane, right?" He asked Damian excitedly. "Well almost, he's a Great Dane."

The small child looked exactly like his sister. It was almost scary. The young boy always regretted not getting to know his sister before she ran away.

There was some suspicion that Alfred knew where she was, but he refused to say anything. It looked like that theory was finally confirmed.

The boy couldn't help but wonder what his father was thinking right now. He risked taking a glance and for the first time ever his father looked truly lost -and that scared him a little.

How long had Alfred been in contact with y/n? Why did she never try to reach out to them? Did she hate them? -Did she hate him?

He didn't know why but that thought hurt, Alfred would sometimes talk about y/n -and she sounded quite amazing. It was clear that Alfred was very fond of her, and he couldn't help but wonder what she was like.

He was brought back to reality by the small child asking questions.

"How old is he? When's his birthday? What's his favorite colour? Does he like strawberries? I do!! Is he--" and he rattled on.

On the other side of the room stood Alfred and Owen.

"Grandpa? Where's Ace?" Owen asked timidly. He liked grandpa Alfred, but the other people looked scary. Ace would protect him, he knew that. He didn't like that Fred was so close to them either. What if something happened to him?

"Ace is sleeping upstairs, young master. Do you want me to retrieve him, whilst you go over to Fred?" the boy looked panically around him "can I come too? Please?" ''Of course you can, but don't you want to stay with Master Fred?" "I- I don't really know"

Alfred looked curiously at him "I don't want to stay with the scary people -and I don't want Fred to either." "Fret not, young Master, Master Fred is in safe hands" "how do you know that?" "Because Mrs. y/n trusts them, or perhaps me, enough to leave you here." "That's true I guess, but it doesn't mean I'll like it" Alfred chuckled "of course, young master"

Alfred took the young boys' hand and led him upstairs to look for the dog.

"Alfred, right?" Dick asked hesitantly, the small ball of energy looked up at him "Yep that's me, but you can call me Fred" Dick nodded slowly. The boy smiled brightly at him "how old are you?" the boy held up three fingers. "I'm 3-years-old" he said happily "oh, nice."

Jason cackled "How awkward can you be Dickie-bird?" "Shut up" he responded right away "not in front of the child!" Damian roared. Jason cackled again.

"Have you gone soft Damian?" "Stop being mean! It's not nice" Fred said, jumping to defend Damian even if he didn't quite understand what Jason had said. "Oh, really. I didn't know" "Jason, stop being an idiot" "says you" "oh, shut up" Tim said angrily.

"What are you going to do about it?" Jason said stepping closer to the shorter boy. "Stop" the girls said in unison, tones laced with annoyance.

After going back and forth for a while Fred had enough

"Grandpa" Fred yelled -already standing by the door "these people are mean, I don't like them anymore" and he sprinted away, just like his dad had taught him.

"Wha-" "When-" "It's your fault" "Is not" "Yes-"

"Boys," Bruce said coldly, "behave yourselves right now. That's your sister's son and you're giving him a terrible first impression" they silenced and some looked down in guilt.

"We -I have to fix this. This could be the last chance we have to get y/n back in our lives -let that sink in" and he slunked away.
