"I want to die"
Those were the last words I heard my sister say.
I didn't know how to respond to her, I just hugged her until she stopped crying. Tears were flowing down her cheeks, but I didn't react the way she did; maybe if I had, things would have ended differently. Maybe if I showed a little bit of emotion that night...Shouko would still be here.
No one treated her kindly. It was her and I against the world. I thought I had gotten to know Shoya, but it turns out he's just the same person that he was in middle school, ripping out my big sister's hearing aids as "a joke". Even our own mother was dismissive and rude towards Shouko. I'm not surprised that she did what she did. I'm just surprised that nobody showed kindness to the girl that clearly needed it the most.
I may not have been there when she needed it; I can't say I'm the perfect sister. But I sure as hell ain't letting any of those bastards get away scot free. Just like my sister, revenge will be silent...but deadly.
