You feel hot rays of light hit your skin, and your eyes flutter open. It takes you a moment to grasp your surroundings, you're in your simple room. A queen-sized bed beside the window, wooden desk and chair, small closet, and your shoes beside the door. Living with the survey corps training grounds was not exactly luxurious.

As you were about to get up you hear a rough knock at your door, so you get up to answer it. It's Petra, your friend, you have known her since the training days, and she's one of the few people in our graduating class to join the Scouts.

"Y/n I got some great news!" She beams, and you give her a small smile and let her in. Being around Petra was like being around a ray of sunshine, she was absolutely cute and always remained positive. You nod your head for her to continue.

"I was walking to my room this morning when I overheard Erwin saying that he's planning on speaking with you regarding the new captain position" She giggles, and you gasp. You have had your eye on the captain position for the past 3 years since you've joined the Scouts. You have worked your ass off in training and on the field to even be considered for this position, and you can't help but pat yourself on the back. You have rushed to every opportunity to help and gain Erwin's respect and finally, it's beginning to pay off.

Just as you were about to respond to Petra, another knock fell on your door. This time it's a messenger from Erwin calling you for a meeting in his quarters in 30 minutes. Petra gives you a soft pat on the head and leaves to let you change. You quickly put on your uniform and rush to Erwin's office.

"Good morning, sir" you polity greet as you walk in, Erwin is sitting at the head of the table around him a couple of other superiors. You quickly scan the room and spot all the familiar faces. In the seat beside Erwin is captain Levi, he's quite infamous around the Scouts though you have never spoken to him. Beside Erwin from the other side is Hange, who is giving you a warm smile which you return, and beside her is Moblit. There are a couple more people who you don't know as well. You walk over and take a seat in the only empty spot, which is beside Captain Levi. You have always had a strong dislike for him, but at this moment you had no problem throwing on your best poker face.

"Ms. Hale I'm sure you are aware why I've brought you here, but I'll mention it regardless. You are in the running for the next squad captain, you have shown excellent perseverance, skills, talent and respect. Which are all skills any great leader needs, so let me know if you have any protests" Erwin says as calm as always, and nod letting him continue.

"Excellent, well in order to get to be captain you will need to do a 6 month training period with one of our elite captains. So I've assigned Hange to teach you all you need to kn-" Erwin is interrupted.

"Yay! We are going to have so much fun! I have so much to teach you!" Hange screams in excitement and you give her a soft smile. You weren't shocked by her behaviour everyone knew Hange was loud and bubbly, which is why you were excited for her to be your guide.

"On second thought, I think I will assign you to Levi" Erwin states firmly, and Levi snaps his head to him.

"Huh! Erwin, I thought we agreed on me" Hange whines, and you begin to worry. Surely you can't learn from Levi, he seems like the type to kill you if you make one mistake.

"Yes we did, but I'm now starting to feel like you would be too lenient and we need Y/n to truly learn. Which is why Levi is perfect" Erwin explains, and Hange doesn't know how to respond. I mean he does have a point, but couldn't it be anyone else, you think to yourself.
