"so how's the play been going?" mason asked jairus as they made their way into the school. as soon as they went inside, they saw stiles and madi talking at the lockers.

"going pretty good." jairus told mason as they both looked at them. "they've been getting pretty close, huh?"

"yeah. talk about the unexpected." mason told jairus. the two boys glanced at each other before walking towards their own lockers.

"so.. when's the play?"

"this friday." jairus told mason. "you coming?"

mason laughed and nodded his head. "you really think i'm gonna miss your big opening night?"

jairus chuckled. "thanks, man. our whole group has been rough lately. thanks for still supporting me."

"always." mason said.

they both got distracted once they saw stiles and madi pass them in the halls. "so what's been going on with olivia?"

jairus sighed and leaned on the locker. "she was mad at me. but we're cool now i guess."

"damn. she always forgives you." mason told jairus who just shrugs his shoulders. jairus looked over to the side and looked at madi who was laughing to whatever stiles said.

jairus smiled to himself as he watched them. he was really happy that madi had a friend that she could talk to.

"jai?" mason said, snapping jairus's thoughts.

"huh? what?"

mason looked up to see stiles and madi.

"you miss madi, don't you?"

jairus didn't say anything. he opened his mouth to talk until the bell rang.

"better get to class." mason said, patting jairus in the shoulder and walking off.

"knock, knock." jairus said as he went into matty's hospital room.

matty glanced over at jairus and then focusing his attention back on the tv.

"what do you want, jairus?"

"to apologize."

"i don't want an apology."

"yeah but you need it." jairus said. matty let out a deep sigh and let jairus continue. "listen, matty. i'm really sorry about what happened at that lake. it was stupid and fucked up to let you jump in that lake. i'm sorry that we did that to you. we didn't think that you would get hurt. it was just for fun, really.."

"you don't know how bad i wanted to be your guys friends. you guys are like the coolest and most popular people. i feel so stupid for thinking that."

matty looked away from jairus. jairus looked down at the floor and sighed.

"listen, you don't have to forgive me. but i just wanted to let you know how deeply sorry i am. and how sorry we are for the way we treated you."

jairus got up to leave the room until matty spoke up.

"wanna know the one thing i'm always thinking about that night?"

"what?"

"that you were the only one to see if i was okay." matty stated. "that was until you left me there to run away from the cops."

"i was scared!" ricky said, making matty chuckle.

"you're an asshole, but hey. at least you stayed with me, baker." matty said. "i'll see you around school someday."

"guess so." jairus said, happily. i'll see you around, matty."

"yeah.."
