After running away from Soma's honey squid you head over to Senzaemon's office because he emailed you saying he wanted to talk to you. You knock on the door and hear a faint "Come in" so you enter then sit at the chair near his desk.
"Hey Senzaemon, what did you need to talk about?" You ask with curiosity wondering why he had called you here all of a sudden.
"You want to continue to get better at cooking right?" He asks.
"Yes, there are still so many things to do to improve my cooking. I want to get better and continue climbing the ladder. I'll do whatever it takes. Why do you ask?" You reply to Senzaemon.
"I'd suggest moving into the Polar Star Dormitory then," Senzaemon says "You put your emotions and memories into your food right? Well, I've noticed during your time living here that you're lacking in one section in particular. Your lacking feelings of love and happy memories in your food. Yes, you have some, but you've been so caught up in learning how to cook you've missed out on creating memories during your teenage years. Those feelings would be the strongest in your food and will help you grow. If you want to continue climbing that ladder then move into the dorm."
Your eyes widened a bit after being told this and you realize that you did in fact waste a lot of your childhood's social life. You nod your head knowing that it's necessary for your food to improve. "Ok, I'll move in. When do I move in?" You ask.
"Today" Senzaemon replies giving you a pamphlet with the info on it. 'A little warning would've been nice' you sigh. "Go, go make some memories that will last you a lifetime," you nod with a bit more energy and then you head out of the room.
While walking out of the building you read the pamphlet given to you. 'A dormitory entrance skill test huh?' You think after you read 'I better head to a grocery store before going to the dorm'. You go to the grocery store to pick up your ingredients, sushi rice, nori, cucumber, carrot, avocado, salmon, soy sauce, and wasabi. After you get your ingredients you make your way to the dorm.
Your back on the Totsuki Academy campus and you see a familiar head of red hair. 'It looks like Soma's going to the same place I am, or at least walking the same direction' You think then decide that sneaking up on him and scaring him would be a good idea. You sneak up behind him and once you're close enough you yell, "Boo!" Soma jumps then turns around to see you laughing.
"Oh (Y/n) I didn't see you there," Soma says, 'Well yeah isn't that obvious, I scared you' you think.
"Yeah, I saw you walking in the same direction as I was so I decided to scare you" You explain and Soma nods. You two walk in silence for a tiny bit. "Where are you going by the way?" You ask.
"I'm moving into the Polar Star Dormitory, you?" He responds.
"Same here" You reply. Soma notices you shivering so he wraps an arm around you to keep you warmer. You blush at the sudden contact then look up at him and give him a smile.
You two arrive at the Polar Star Dormitory and Soma stays still for a second but you continue walking. Soma was fazed at the appearance of the dorm but you weren't after all you did stay here a bit. You two enter the dorm and were greeted by chaos. First, there was smoke coming from upstairs that you two were alarmed by. "HEEEY, ROOM 208! You went and modified the lounge into a smoking room again, shall I make you into smoked chips!!?" A voice came from the speakers. 'Poor Fumio with these chaotic teens you think' shaking your head with a small smile.
"Yes, yes, I'm reflecting on it," Said a boy coming out of the smoke with medium, unkempt auburn hair.
All of a sudden a bunch of animals came out and nearly trampled Soma and you, a girl with amber hair in two buns followed the animals yelling at them not to leave their cages. "Don't keep animals in your room, room 116!! If you do it again, I'll skin your body!!" The voice from the speakers spoke again.
"You're the transfer students who want to enter this dorm, Soma Yukihira, right? And hello (Y/n)," The voice from the speakers was suddenly closer than before, you and Soma turned around and you waved at Fumio. "I'm this place's dorm mother... call me 'Polar Star's Maria', Fumio," Fumio says.
"I'm sure you've prepared your ingredients," Fumio says and you nod your head.
"Huh? Ingredients for what...?" Soma asks, you turn and realize he wasn't carrying any groceries. 'He must have not read the pamphlet' you think.
"That's obvious!" Fumio shouts, "For Polar Star's specialty... the skill test!"
"I didn't hear about this!" Soma shouts nervously meanwhile your just standing there awkwardly watching.
"Then you lose by default! You can't enter Polar Star without having your skills checked" Fumio says, "You'll have to camp tonight."
"Don't screw with me!! Don't underestimate how cold an April night can be!" Soma tells. Fumio tells Soma to give up because there are only leftover ingredients in the kitchen, Soma's eyes widen a bit because of this, then he grins, "So I can use those leftovers? I'll take the skill test! Where's the kitchen!?"
Fumio leads you two to the kitchen and Soma is surprised because of the difference in quality between the exterior and the kitchen. "How many of the students' dishes do you think I've tasted! Do you think I'll give an improvised dish a passing mark?" Fumio asks Soma. Soma is walking by the ingredients looking for what he could use and you set up your tools and ingredients at the table.
"Yeah! This should be enough!" Soma says when he has all the ingredients he needs, " Polar Star Dormitory Mother, Fumio Daimido, please wait a minute!" Soma starts cooking and Fumio looks surprised.
You get in the zone and start cooking too. You're making some sushi. First, you boil the rice and season it, then you remove it from the heat after. Then you julienne the vegetables to get them ready. You cut the salmon up into strips. You prepare to wrap your sushi by placing plastic wrap onto your bamboo mat. You put your nori (seaweed sheet) on the plastic wrap followed by rice then your vegetables and salmon. You then roll your sushi into the cylinder shape. You take out the sushi from the bamboo mat and slice it. You then plate your sushi adding a little dish of soy sauce for Fumio to dip the sushi in and some wasabi on the side.
You get out of your cooking zone to see Soma giving Fumio his dish. Fumio takes a bit and those two talk about the ingredients for a bit. By the look on Fumio's face, you can tell she loves it, maybe she loves it a little bit too much because now she's moving closer to Soma with her lips puckered 'Yikes' you thought. "LET ME GO, OLD HAAAAG!!!" Soma yells scared at how close her face is to his.
Fumio let's go, "Alright! Your room is room 303!" Fumio says, " I'll accept your admission into the dorm!!"
"It wasn't much!" Soma replies. You bring your dish over to Fumio and Soma sticks around.
"Here's my sushi Fumio" You give it to her and she takes a bite. A tear falls from Fumio's eye 'The hell is with her cooking and making people cry??' Soma thinks sweatdropping after seeing two people crying after eating your dish. Fumio felt the emotions and memories you put into the dish, the coldness and the loneliness. "(Y/n) you pass. Your room is room 304."
You and Soma both head to your rooms and check them out. 'If I remember correctly right now's the girls time on the bath schedule' You think 'I'll go take a bath'. You grab the stuff you need then head over to the bathroom. You enter and see Megumi in the bath and you wave "Hi Megumi, you live in this dorm too?" You ask smiling.
She nods with a smile "Yup, did you just move in?"
"Yeah. I can't believe the first day was already this hard," You say and Megumi agrees. You and Megumi talk for a bit getting to know each other 'She's cute' you both thought smiling.
"Ever since I got here, this has been the only place where I've been able to relax. Ms. Fumio can be a bit terrifying but at least are no strict teachers or Soma" Megumi says just as your about to correct her on that last bit you both hear something at the door.
"I guess I'll start things off with a hot bath" the door then opens revealing Soma and you instantly cover yourself. Soma just stands there with a shocked expression "Uh."
Megumi has tears in her eyes and both of you girls are blushing in embarrassment. Megumi screams and you shout "SOMA GET OUT!!!"
