The sound of the Gjallarhorn can still be heard, even now, as Thor faces Jormungandr. Moments ago, the gods were feasting in Valhalla with the einherjar when Heimdall blew the Gjallarhorn, signaling that the Ragnarok has begun. Now here Thor was, facing his death in the eyes, ready for what's about to come. The serpent thrashed its mighty tail, drowning the land in the ocean's water, preparing to strike.
Thor hefted his mighty hammer, Mjollnir, showing the Great Beast he was ready. With an ear-piercing screech, Jormungandr lunged for Thor. Thor dodged out of the way by a hair's breadth. The dragon was faster than he expected, but that makes the challenge all the more fun. Thor was excited, he greeted death with open arms, but there was no way in Hel he was going down without a fight.
He lifted Mjollnir to the heavens, calling upon a thunderstorm like no other. The sky darkened with clouds, thunder shook the Earth, wind ripped at the sea, rain filled the oceans, and lightning illuminated the battlefield. The serpent reared, rising to a great height, and rushed at Thor, throwing the weight of its body behind the strike. Thor jumped and swung his hammer, Jormungandr roared in pain as Mjollnir connected with the beast's jaw and sunk back into the waves. Thor peered into the water and Jormungandr sprang out, his fangs sinking in Thor's arm. Thor cried out in pain as venom entered his body.
Thor raised Mjollnir, calling down lightning to engulf the mighty weapon, and threw it at Jormungandr's eye. As the hammer collided with the glowing yellow eye, lightning exploded from the hammer, burning half of the dragon's face. Jormungandr opened his jaws wide in a cry of pain, thrashing his body and whipping his head this way and that. Thor plummeted back to the Earth, but as he fell, he called down one last bolt of lightning, putting all his rage into it, fueling it. The sky glowed as the bolt formed, the air smelled of ozone, the ground shook with the thunder, and the wind whipped as Thor let out a battle cry. The lightning struck Jormungandr right between the eyes, cutting a hole clean through the serpent skull.
And Thor fell. He created a crater where he landed, but he stood. His vision blurred, his arm gushed blood, but he walked. One, two, three, five, nine paces, and he collapsed. Thor's breaths were ragged, but he had a smile on his face as he watched Jormungandr's lifeless body sink beneath the waves one last, final time. The sounds of battle slowly faded into nothing, as did Thor's vision, and not long after, his life.
