||Second Person POV||||
Ever since you moved to Happy Tree Town, you had thought that your state of clinical depression would lessen. You had judged the entire town on the entire name alone, taking the "Happy" a bit too seriously, and thinking that you would be just as joyful as the quaint place promised. But, you were the exact opposite.
You remember hearing rumors about the town, yet you never bothered to really take the humors to heart. Why would you? People gossip and twist stories all the time to make them more exciting, or to deceit people, and you thought you would not be among those who believed all the wuss-wuss. Besides, what sense would it make for almost the entire town to die on the daily and magically come back alive? What sense does that make? None, you liked to believe. It just didn't make sense to you.
Oh how you wished you had just believed those crazy stories, even in the slightest. Despite how unbelievable they seemed to desperately to be.
You didn't see anything out of the ordinary when you first moved here, everything was rather peaceful. The scenery was beautiful, and the people that lived all across this oh so lovely town were all nice in their own way from what you knew. There were of course those who had their flaws, but, you didn't mind in the slightest. Not everybody is perfect, not even yourself. Your naïve self thought that you had finally made a good change for once, but, you were a bit too trusting in this town, and had too high of expectations. But who could blame you? You just simply wanted to be happy. And you'd take any risk to be just that.
After you soon discovered what this town was about, you were absolutely fucking terrified. All of the stories that you heard in your previous town was proved to be right, and by god did you wish that they weren't. You saw the people you were quick to get along and even be friends with killed in numerous ways in front of your eyes, with you being among them just in your first day of moving here. And by all that is holy, were you surprised when you woke up the next day in near perfect condition, yet with the memories plaguing your mind. It was terrible to relieve, and it had even made you sick to your stomach.
Sick enough for you to even have to rush to your bathroom and throw up whatever laid in your stomach, which wasn't must at all. But the memories stuck to you. You just couldn't handle it. With both the sights of innocent people slaughtered with their organs on display ingrained in your mind, and even the faint stinging sensation remaining upon your skin just reminding you of how you were killed. It was all just too much for you, and you knew you had to either avoid everything and everyone, or leave this town.
And you tried both things. Oh you certainly did.
At first, you had packed your things and tried to leave this damn town, but of course, you were killed. You tried again, and you were once again, killed. Again, and again, and again, and it all led to the same exact result. Death. It's like the town was just forcing you to stay, preventing you from ever escaping from what is now your destiny. So, you tried your other option on just locking yourself in your house and cowering in a corner, but even that didn't work. Not as well as you hoped anyways. On some rare days, you managed to successfully avoid death which you were more than thankful though. But other days, as expected, you were faced with the same exact ending, it being you dying in the supposed "safety" of your own home.
With both things failing, it fucked you up to hell. With your mentality already being in practical shambles, this was everything but good for it, and your depression that was worsening almost literally by the second every single day that you were forced to say in this hellhole. It made you realize that there was only two other options at this point.
One, you could just let this town do what it wants with you, since there's no point in resisting what you can't control.
And Two, you could commit suicide before you get a more violent, painful death, and just end the day early without having to take a gamble on whether or not you'll survive this day. This is one of the only things that seemed to be the most effective of anything you've ever tried in the past, which made you constantly continue this repeated cycle. Now of course, it wasn't 100% without flaw. With the world despising you and hating your attempts of escaping what is already planned, you would occasionally have your life taken by another in the most shitty ways.
But, either way, your new method was effective.
It became a repeated cycle, almost on the norm for you. It was.. almost calming to feel free of not having your skin and flesh ripped open, and your blood covering the walls of your home. It was almost as if death itself swaddled you in a warm embrace, preventing you from facing the world you've grown to despise within such little time. Time and time, you did it again, but with each attempt, you grew.. tired.
You soon realized that didn't want to live like this. As much as you didn't want to die continuously in the most gruesome, horrible, and painful ways, killing yourself is just as bad. You're still dying whether you like it or not, but, without the advantages of just having a normal day. You thought to yourself.. why not just enjoy the day as much as you can, even whilst knowing that death hovers over you, and many others? Just accept it, you'll never really escape this world, at least not permanently. You gain nothing out of avoiding everything, truly, it's pointless.
Wallowing in despair didn't help. Committing suicide didn't help, not in a way that matters really. There is nothing to gain in that situation, and you knew it.
With you convincing yourself, you had decided to listen to the little thought in your head who told you to live your spontaneous short life to the fullest, which did in the end make you feel slightly better for a while. In fact, you were getting dressed just so you could go out with a group of the friends that you've made, the said friends consisting of Giggles, Petunia, Flaky, and Toothy. You decided to go with something nice and simple, it consisting of a regular short-sleeved t-shirt, bell bottoms, striped socks, sneakers. You paired your outfit up with a pair of fingerless gloves, and a silver cross necklace that hanged around your neck.
Taking your wallet and keys with you, you decided that you were all ready to go, and just in time too. Just as you were checking yourself out in your bathroom mirror, you could hear your doorbell ring and a few raps at your door, signaling that, who you guessed were your friends, were here to pick you up. Quickly making your way out of your bathroom whilst closing the door behind you, you made your way over to your front door, unlocking it and swinging it open to reveal just who you were expecting.
"Hey, buddy! Are you ready to go to the park with us?"
Toothy had asked you with a big beaming smile on his face, making you flash a shy of a smile back at him as you nodded. Toothy and the others were already being used to you not being that much of a chatterbox thankfully. Not vocally anyways.
"Great! C'mon, let's go!"
He said, turning around and motioning with his hand for you to follow while beginning to walk, as the others followed. You stayed behind to lock your house behind you, but was quick to catch up with the others, who had made sure to not go too fast to the point it'd be difficult to catch up. As the five of you made your way to the park, you had all made small talk to occupy the few minutes that it took to get there, laughs and smiles being shared along the way. Even you laughed along, since you enjoyed spending time with the four of them. They were all kind, and enjoyable in their own fun little ways.
Perhaps Happy Tree Town wasn't all bad..
Upon your quick arrival to the park, you had all noticed that there were quite a few more things than usual to be enjoyed today. It seemed like it was quite a special day since there were quite a few things that were setup within it, such as bouncy castles, food trucks, and even a place where you can play soccer. To put it simply, it was fucking bussin in this joint, and you among others were excited to have fun. Flaky even seemed to be the slightest bit excited, despite her naturally timid nature. You found it cute.
The five of you began to walk around the park as each of you seemed to want to do something different. Toothy wanted to go play soccer with some others who were already over there, Petunia and Giggles wanted to simply walk around the park and check out the sites, and Flaky wanted to go on the bouncy castle. An odd choice for a porcupine, but, you didn't want to hold her back. In fact, you wanted to join her.
With all of you making up your minds on what to do, no communication was needed for all of you to decide on doing your own things, which definitely seemed pleasant. Looks like the only friend you're left with now was with Flaky, who seemed to be waiting on you to guide her over to the bouncy castle. You gave her a smile in turn before reaching out to hold her hand, making them blush faintly and let out one of their breathy giggles. Turning your head away from the shy cutie, you began to lead her over to the bouncy castle excitedly, the two of you laughing along the way.
It didn't take long for the two of you to reach it, stopping near the entrance to take of your shoes as it was required for you to do. Breaking your hand holding, you both sat down upon the soft grass and began to take off your shoes. Although, as you were doing so, you had taken a glance away from your feet, and who do you spot at the park but a slightly familiar face. Seeming to be keeping an eye on the air that was in charge of keeping the balloon house in shape was a bear that you had met briefly before.. mostly on bad terms. What was his name? Flinty? Flicky? Floppy?
As you unintentionally stared at him while trying to figure out his name, you snapped out of your daze when you noticed him turn his head to look at you, noticing your stare upon himself. He seemed to blink in surprise, before giving you a small smile and a wave in an almost awkward manner, not sure what you're really paying attention to him for. It's not like he was very interesting in this scenario.
A small flush had arisen to your cheeks since he had noticed you, and you cleared your throat before turning your head to Flaky. She seemed to be looking at you in a questioning matter, perking up when you motioned for her to go in the bouncy house. Tilting her head in the slightest, she had questioned what you meant, muttering out in a voice filled with her usual stutter,
"A-Aren't you comi-ing..?"
You nodded by her question, and had to use your voice this time to say in an almost whispery voice,
"Of course. Just give me a few seconds, okay?"
Nodding her head hesitantly, she gave you one last smile before climbing into the bouncy castle, trying to be mindful of her pointy quills while on the way inside. You had watched her leave for only a second before you hurriedly popped off your other shoe, getting up from your place upon the green grass and patting yourself down of any remaining blades, or even dirt that might have gotten on you. Once deciding that your backside was fine, you turned your head back to the green bear from before, taking in a deep breath before you approached him, a bit nervously at that.
He was quick to notice you coming over to him, and he could of course notice that you were the person who was just staring down at him literal seconds before. When you were close enough, he had began to speak to you in a voice that.. sounded a lot softer than what you were used to.
"Hello again! I see you've gathered the courage to talk to me?"
He questioned in a lighthearted tone, making you let out a small laugh and rub at the back of your neck in an embarrassed manner. Nodding your head to his playful question, he seemed a bit curious on how you didn't have a vocal response, but definitely didn't seem to mind. He wasn't one to judge others, not in this case anyways.
"You're the new townie here, right? It's nice to see you again."
Right, you had met him before, but only once when there was a welcome party hosted just for you. He definitely seemed nice enough.. at the start anyways. We won't talk about what happened at the party afterwards.
That was of course not your only meeting with this peculiar bear though. You've met him in a few other occasions, although.. not when he was really himself unfortunately. But luckily for you, he didn't seem to be in what you would guess, a very, VERY bad mood.
Nodding again by hearing his other question, you had outstretched your hand towards him whilst saying in your usual quiet tone,
"It's nice to meet you.. um. Fluppy, was it?"
You said, blinking when he had began to laugh at what you assumed his name was. Fluppy, what a hoot!
"Haha! Close one! It's Flippy!"
He said with a closed eye smile, taking your hand into his larger one and giving it a firm yet.. gentle grip. He shook it in an almost rough manner, making you slightly surprised on the strength that he had shown through it. Shaking his hand in return while trying not to be too fazed, it was short lived as you soon both let go, and he began to start a conversation. Quite the friendly type, wasn't he?
"So, what brings you here to this park? Did you see the posters that were hung around town?"
Seeming confused by this, you don't recall seeing posters anywhere. But, this could be because you NEVER WENT OUTSIDE YOU COWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, you shook your head, before looking away from Flippy and pointing at your friends that you could see within the distance, and even in the balloon house beside you two that was surprisingly still standing. Despite Flaky being inside.
The green bear seemed to try to process what you were trying to say, quickly understanding your little game of charades. You could tell by the way his little round ears perked up, as well as how his face lit up as he said,
"Ah, you were invited here by some friends?"
Even you seemed to light up by being understood, rapidly shaking your head and clapping your hands in a delighted manner. You couldn't lie, you felt a twinge of happiness seeing as this bear could easily understand what you were saying to him, especially since without words. Some of that you've spoken to seemed to just look at you with a questionable look, and not understand what you were trying to say at times. But, this man didn't seem to have much of an issue at all. Lucky you!
You turned your head back to him, and motioned your finger to him instead, while tilting your head. Catching on to what you were putting down, he chuckled before saying as he carefully lied his hand against the bouncy castle at his side,
"I just volunteered to help around a bit as all, got the job to manage the bouncy house. As long as nothing happens to it, everything should be fi-"
In an almost spiteful way, what you predicted within the innards of your mind happened. You could only hear a shaky, high pitched scream come from within the bouncy house before a LOUD popping sound could be heard, making the green bear beside you quickly retract his hand from the castle. The sound startled you and many others, but one it mainly startled was Flippy who had gone dead silent beside you.
His pupils began to dilate and his body began to quiver lightly, the heavily traumatized man only being able to let out a whimper before the world around him turned dark, and shifted to a place he didn't want to return to. He could feel his own heartbeat quicken and his breaths become ragged, his eyes staring out into the distance that he now saw as a gruesome warzone, instead of the peaceful park that he didn't know was still there.
Unfortunately, your focus wasn't on Flippy for the time being, but rather Flaky who was still screaming from the rapidly deflating house of balloons. You were worried for her, and you knew you had to help her before she made anything worse. Letting out a sigh and turning your head to tell Flippy that you need to excuse yourself, you were surprised when you saw that he had fallen to his knees with his hands practically clawing at his own head. His breathing had become heavy, and quick paced, his eyes closed tightly and his fingers clutching onto his hair, pulling on it roughly.
"H-Hey, Flippy..? Are you.. are you alright?"
As you bent down to his level and reached out your hand to try to comfort him, you jolted in place when his own suddenly reached out and grabbed onto your wrist with a hold, much too tight for your comfort. Gritting your teeth together from the slight pain it had caused you, your eyes looked over at Flippy only to let out a low gasp by seeing the look he was sending you.
His pupils were noticeably a different color, seeming to have changed into a striking hazel color that bore into your own orbs. His eyes sent a look that could kill, seeming to have a bloodthirsty tone to them that made your own fill with fear. His mouth was turned into a grin that was way too outstretched to your liking, showing his sharp canines that almost looked ready to bite you, and tear you apart from where you were sitting.
..You had a feeling this wasn't going to end well for you at all. And you quickly began to fear the bear that was right in front of you, knowing he will be the cause of your death and demise.
Maybe this is why he was called Flippy.
