                                    chapter 1

As my eyes fluttered open, I found myself leaning against the rough bark of a tree. It was then that I realized a stranger had just woken me up from my slumber. The suddenness of the situation had left me disoriented, and I had to take a moment to collect my thoughts. As I looked around, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease at the unfamiliar surroundings.

Once again, I had passed out. While I would like to attribute it to my poor eating habits, deep down, I knew the real reason why. The truth was that I had been struggling with a deeper issue that I just couldn't shake. Despite my efforts to ignore it, my body was beginning to show the toll it was taking. As I lay there, trying to regain my senses, I couldn't shake the feeling of frustration with myself.

Unknown: "Hey, you okay?" He said while lending his hand to me.

As I looked into his eyes, I immediately noticed that they were a deep shade of red. The color was so intense that I knew they couldn't possibly be natural. I found myself unable to focus on anything else but the unnerving gaze of his eyes.

I usually feel terrified when talking to people, let alone feeling comfortable with them, and even more so when it's with a complete stranger! But there was something about him... something that felt like home. It was strange, really, because I had never met him before, but I felt like I could trust him. It was as if we had known each other for years, and I couldn't help but feel drawn to him.

I tightly grasped his hand and pulled myself up from the cold, hard floor.

Unknown: " does this happen.. often?"

Elena: "I-I Guess?" I forced down the rising tide of fear that threatened to overwhelm me.

Unknown : "sorry- I'm Edward."

Just as I was about to introduce myself, a chill ran through my body as I felt a cold liquid seep through my fingers.

It stings.

"What's wrong?" Edward tilted his head and tried to meet my gaze, but I averted my eyes, trying to conceal the scar I had from passing out and cutting myself on the broken glass scattered on the floor.

Elena: "No.. nothing." I replied.

I put on a smile.

"it's probably just.. a cut of wood." I stated.

Edward grabbed my hand to examine the cut, but then suddenly withdrew and avoided making eye contact with me.

Edward: "Well- I-I got to go.. Yeah, I'll- I'll see you around." He said still avoiding eye contact with me.

He handed me a piece of paper with his name and his number written, and proceeded to walk away.

Why did he just suddenly leave me? Why is he avoiding me?" I thought to myself, but then I realized that I was overthinking things. "It's fine," I reassured myself, "besides, it's getting late. I should head home before Dad gets mad."

I picked up my diary and backpack from the floor and headed home.
