- What you doing? - Carlos Sainz said approaching the space the girl was sat in a quite funny scene, a huge bowl of m&m's and a university book open in front of her.
- Trying to finish the last assignment - She sighed.
She was so close to graduate, took all of her tests and failed one of them, she knew that was happening, after all she had been more focused on McLaren responsibilities than her university one's and now she had exactly two hours to deliver it and hopefully graduate.
- You're graduating at the end of the year, right? - He asked and she shook her head
- Technically I already graduated - She smiled shyly, I just need to send in this last paper to make up for my terrible grade
- Why wasn't I invited for the ceremony then? - The Spanish asked truly offended by it
- Cause I didn't go to it - She shrugged her shoulders looking at him
- Why not? It's a one in a lifetime thing - He asked taking some m&m's from her bowl and watching her press send on her paper, closing both book and computer
- Because there was no need to, my father and the rest wouldn't come and my grandparent's had things on the day, so I just chose not to. - She shrugged - My grandparents are going to visit after Austria, I'll just celebrate them - She explained
- I can't believe this. How did Zak even allow you to not graduate? - He asked knowing his older boss saw the girl as his own daughter, took care of her as if she carried the Brown last name, he would never miss it
- He thinks I'm only graduating at the end of the year, it took time but I managed a good lie - She explained standing up - I have a meeting with the media team, sorry to leave you - She honestly said looking at the older boy who smiled hugging her and leaving the room gathering a very, very, important meeting of his own.
- I'm here and why couldn't I bring Sarah? - Charlotte entered the room asking straight away taking notice of the people in the room
- Because it's about her, therefore she can't know or it ruins the entire purpose of a surprise - Carlos Onõro explained
- So, I gather you all here my old beloved team, because Sarah lied to our faces - He said making everyone look confused at him - She said she was only graduating at the end of the year, didn't she? - He asked looking at Zak
- Yeah, she said she had failed a few classes - Zak explained not understanding anything
- That was a lie. She didn't fail any classes, she failed an assignment which she's most likely going to get a really good grade right now. She chose not to have a graduation ceremony due to her lovely family, which we won't be getting into it now since I don't know the extend of knowledge from each and every single one of you - He explained
- Wait, she didn't celebrate graduation? - Lando asked confused, he was confused about her family but even more about her not celebrating the end of something so exhausting and that was also an important milestone
- Exactly, nothing. So I thought we could throw a celebration for her - He explained - I'm trying to get her tickets for Wembley so she can watch the final, but I don't know how that's gonna go
- I can get tickets - Lando said - The boys offered me, I'll deal with the tickets - He said knowing he could easily get one for the girl
- We can do the celebration at my place - Zak explained and he nodded
- Her grandparents are coming from Spain until Thursday and you guys also have GoodWood, so I thought we could do it on Wednesday? - Carlos said looking at them who all nodded
- I'll deal with the food - Charlotte chimed in and everyone agreed
- Then we have it all covered - Zak said - Just keep all of your mouths shut
- Do you think Sarah would like this or this more? - Lando asked showing Carlos a bracelet and a necklace on his phone.
After the meeting the ex-teammates had decided to spend some time together just the two of them and while it was fun to play some games together, the moment Carlos focused on his phone chatting with his girlfriend, Lando also focused on his, trying to find the perfect graduation gift for the girl.
His mother was a huge help via text, offering insight on what gifts she had given to Flo when she graduated high school and what the process behind it was, but he knew that between Carlos and his mom, the Spanish driver knew the girl way better.
- The necklace, but you know you have to engrave something in this one, right? - Carlos asked looking at the boy who nodded
- You mentioned her family... I remember the few times she spoke about her mother, so I thought of putting something related to her - He explained shyly, that wasn't the normal Lando and Sarah behaviour, he didn't even know her family story.
- Her mom always said "love you to the moon and back", it's something Sarah says till this day - Carlos said looking at the boy who had a thinking face
- To the moon and back - He whispered - That's what I'll engrave in it, not long and it will have a meaning to her - He explained and the Spanish boy nodded smiling
- When did this shift happen? - He asked wanting to get anything out of the boy, watching the boy right now, he really felt like it was more than a simple bet
- I don't know... We kissed a few times and we hang out a lot now, but then sometimes we go back into the same spot we were before - He shrugged
- And there's the bet - Carlos mentioned
- And there's the bet - He sighed - I know I have to talk to her about it or else it's going to fuck everything up in the long run, she'll hate me even more than before
- It seems to me you know what you have to do. - Carlos said and he nodded
- Just need to grow the balls to do it.
