 “I’m alive! Hahaha! I’m alive!!!”

The politician kept shouting out of awe after realizing that he was still “alive”, after his encounter with the mercenary.

“Hey, why are you so happy about this? Don’t you realize we’re in much deeper shit?” exclaimed the mercenary right across the platform where he and the politician stood.

“Ha.. ha… Haaaaahh!!!!---“ The politician suddenly shouted from his surprise. “Whaaa- Whaa—Why are you here?! Ah?” The clueless politician then looked around. He was standing on a platform, connected to a balance beam being held by a hooded figure. He surveyed the surrounding area, left to right, top to bottom – all he could see was pure darkness. “Wher- Where are we? Why is it so dark? Agghhh…”

“Tsk…” The mercenary was pissed with the naïve commentary of the politician.

Suddenly, a white figure appeared above and across the hooded figure holding the balance beam. He was carrying an unconscious girl in black. From a distance, a similar persona also appeared but seemed to wait idly for the white figure to do something about the situation.

The white figure then slowly laid down the young girl lying in the invisible black floor he was standing on. After doing so, he spoke, “Greetings, fated souls. You were summoned here in the realm of the fifth dimension in order to participate in a trial of your untimely deaths. To cut it short, you’re both dead in the mortal world, and you are here to undergo Judgment.”

The politician suddenly froze after hearing those words uttered by the death god while the mercenary remained silent with a calm expression.

Meanwhile, the visitor, Kai, is perfectly relishing his role as an observer of the said ‘trial.’

“You shall be judged accordingly by proving your worth to live another ‘life time.’ One soul will triumph, and the other will not, for he shall spend his time in the Void for all eternity. It will be the compensation for the resulting trade of this trial,” said Yuki with an absolute tone. “Let us commence Judgment!”

The bells of justice rang.

“You shall contend to the Will of the Void your life’s worth in order to be victorious. It shall then influence the partial ruling as it will be evident in the platform you are standing on. The moment it falls down, it means that your worth is heavily noble. On the other hand, if it rises, be alarmed because if it continuously ascends, the Void will be inevitable for your soul,” added Yuki.

“Not bad… not bad,” said Kai in the background with a wry smile.

Yuki heard what Kai said but he did not react.

“So basically, all I need to do is discuss to you guys my whole life and how much it is worthy as compared to that scumbag of a boss over there?” cleared the mercenary to Yuki.

“Yes,” Yuki answered earnestly. He then looked towards the other party with a cynical expression.

“Wha-what are you looking at?!” cried the politician in confusion. He still hasn’t absorbed the whole situation he was in. He kept thinking about what he did to be placed in this situation and how he would get out of it. And then it hit him. He suddenly remembered the time when he was invited to attend a hearing for a serious corruption case - the “special treatments” he gave to the juries and lawyers before the decided date. He then erupted into a maniacal laughter as he finally found the solution to his predicament.

“Hey, boss,” yelled the mercenary from the other platform. “I already know what you’re thinking.”

“Hahaha--- Huh?” said the politician as he stopped from laughing and looked at the mercenary with a mocking look.
