THE WORLD WAS cruel accordingto Penelope Lestrange.
It always had a way of reminding her that things couldn't last forever, that there always had to be pain and suffering no matter what. But as she stood there in shock, the sounds of fighting fading into a dull ringing in her ears and her mind spinning out of control, she didn't understand why the battle was still going on.
Fred Weasley couldn't be dead. The boy who was so full of life, the one who was just laughing a minute ago, the one who had told Peeves to give Umbridge hell, the one that had teased Penelope and Ron relentlessly about their relationship even though he loved them together . . . dead?
Penelope felt like she was sinking. The battle around her ceased to a dull ringing in her ears and her mind was spinning. It quite frankly felt like she was having an out of body experience how everything started to go in slow motion. All she could do was stand there in shock.
And then a body fell past the hole blown into the side of the school, curses flying at them from the darkness. Penelope felt arms grab her and yank her to the floor, and she snapped out of her trance.
