Notes :
For convenience Dew's mom will be named Nan and Best's mom will be named Aom.
The original series never mentioned their names so this is pure fiction on my end for my story.
Anyway, here we go
-................-
The first time Dew's mom witnessed Dew crying was on his last night in Bangkok. She was packing his stuff while waiting for him to arrive home after graduation and remembered seeing his shocked expression when she said he'd be leaving in the morning. Back then she was firm on sending him far away to Chiang Mai as soon as possible. Away from everyone in Bangkok, away from Best.
The first time she met him was when Dew brought him home for lunch with the other friends. She already met Tar and Dave and she knew Fern already but it was the first time Best was ever brought home. At first she was happy that her son manage to get himself another good friend. He was polite, proper and good looking and from what Dave told her, he was also talented in music. Her first impression on Best was great.
But then Fern asked for a time to have private talk and told her about Best and about his possible relationship with his only son. She remembered being so shaken up and her worries increased when she observed how his son behaved around Best on the dining table. She didn't think twice and immediately asked Best where he would enroll for university and based on his answer decided to send Dew away from him.
Now looking back at it only gave her an immense sense of regret. Instead of listening to his son, she chose to believe what Fern had said, which she realized was a horrible decision. Fern literally outed his son and outed Best, without their consent, based on her own assumptions. She might not feel the regret the night she saw Dew cried for the first time because she still refused to listen to his son that time, but now she wishes she did.
The second time she found out her son having another emotional break down was when her husband called her. That time Dew was on his second year of college and one night her husband called, she knew something must've happened because it was rare for him to call at that hour.
"Ter", his voice sounded so lost through the phone, "sorry I called you so late at night but Dew just came back"
She glanced at the clock, it was past midnight and she furrowed her brows, "Why is he coming home so late?"
"Listen to me na, first please sit down", he said and though feeling confused she obeyed and sit on her bed.
"Wait for me to finish na, promise me", he said.
"Okay"
"Ter.... Dew came home drunk", was what he said and she was ready to intervene but she remembered her promise and waited.
"He was a hot mess, crying so painfully while blabbering about someone named Best"
Her heart felt like it's being pierced with hundreds of needles when she heard the name Best. The same person she wished her son would be able to forget if she sent him away. How had it come back to this? She knew Dew had have some girlfriends in the college, she saw him posting about his partners on his facebook page. She thought everything was fine and that her son was as normal as the other kid. So why?
There was a pause on his end but she could listen to him sighed through the speaker phone.
"He kept saying sorry to you, that he couldn't forget about him, that he couldn't be the perfect son for us. He was...", his husband sighed again, "He's hurting, he's in so much pain, all this time he hide it so well that I couldn't even sense it myself, but he said all this time he was hurting, the pain never stopped. I don't know what happened today but I guess he couldn't hold it anymore"
