"You not eatin' this morning?"
Michaela looked up from her phone having previously been scrolling through Instagram at the breakfast bar to face Oakley who sat opposite. His face was in its usual blank expression, along with a slight tinge of worry. It was common practice for him to nog express his feelings to most people, and though she was the one person he ever broke the rule for, she was surprised to see it in him.
"Nah I'll be fine innit, not up to much today am i"
The man opposite her raised his eyebrow a smidgen higher.
"Ya comin' with me though n't ya?"
Michaela's eyes widened; it had completely slipped her mind that she'd agreed to accompany him at a shoot for a magazine today. Even still, it wasn't hefty work. Breakfast wasn't required for sitting around looking pretty for three hours in a back room she wouldn't be seen in.
"You needa eat Kayla can't keep doin' this uno"
He shook his head, clearly bothered by her refusal. Oakley typically cared for very little but Michaela was an exception to the rule, as she was with most of his tendencies. For she was his best friend through thick and thin. The first person to ever gain his full trust and respect. Though he was barely two years older than her, he felt the need to keep her safe and protect her forever just like an older brother should.
"C'mon even a bite Michaela please"
Oakley held his own spoon up to her mouth filled with milk and Reese's puffa, his favourite cereal. The woman giggled at just the thought of this all-around tough man trying to feed her like a baby, he on the other hand was struggling to find amusement.
The boy knew what it was like to not eat, whether it be by choice or the simple fact of not having the facilities to. And he'd never wish such a thing on anybody. It all seemed far too dramatic for such a nonchalant man, but he couldn't let people live the way he hadn't a choice in, willingly.
"Kayla please"
The woman looked up again, seeing a face she hadn't seen in a long time: genuine worry and concern. You could see it in his dark eyes and how his jaw tensed, not to mention he had started to chew his lip raw. It was a state that nobody liked to see him in, not that many ever did really.
She should've known he would get like this.
"We needa leave now anyway can't be leavin' Connor waitin' too long innit"
Suddenly, Oakley made a b-line for the shoe rack by the front door of his apartment, completely forgetting about all the mess he had left on the counter from breakfast and slipped on a pair of Jordans. Leaving Michaela unsure of what to say again.
