It's Halloween and everyone at Hogwarts is excited. I don't understand the hype but I just listen to everyone else talk about the Halloween party that is going to go down tonight. I don't have a costume and I don't really want to go. Hermione and Ginny want me to go so I can have fun. But after what happened a few days ago with Bellatrix I am kind of scared to get out still. I still look over my shoulder and Morgan understands my issues with this. I sit on my bed and watch Hermione try on costume after costume. First a cat, then a witch, then a clown, then a vampire. All of them look funny on her, but she ultimately decides on the vampire.
"Avalee, want to borrow one?" She asks.
"No, I don't want to dress up." I say.
"The witch would look good on you, the cat would look good as well." She says.
"I made a deal with the others, I would go if I didn't have to dress up. I can't dress up. It's hard to explain, I am scared still." I say, "It's been two weeks. Give me time, please."
"Well if your scared of someone recognizing you, you should dress up. It would make you less noticeable."
"I still have a few hours to decide. Let's go to the common room and work on homework."
I leave without her. The common room is crowded with students in their costumes. Harry is a quidditch player, Ron is a wizard, Fred and George are shop captains, Morgan and Charlie are raggedy Ann and Andy. I take my book to an empty table and begin working on the potions essay we were assigned this morning. Ginny joins me and I smile because she isn't dressed up.
"Not going in costume?" I ask her.
"Not going. It's stupid that everyone wants to join a party that is only going to last an hour or two. Besides I thought you could stage with me." She says.
"I wanted to go to the party but as myself." I say then something hits me, "Let's go put on our robes and hats on. We will go as Hogwarts students."
She smirks and we run up to our dorms. I get changed and meet her back in the now empty common room. We walk to the great hall together. Inside everyone is dressed up in costumes and dancing and having fun. Ginny and I find Ron and Harry and they chuckle at our costumes. Being here makes me feel a little Korea comfortable but not much. I see all the professors patrolling the perimeter of the great hall, being chaperones. Suddenly the great hall shakes and goes dark. A hand grabs a hold of mine as everyone else screams. I see flares of light fly into the air as the professors order us to our common rooms. I realize Harry has my hand and we run to Gryffindor tower. Ron, Gong Fred, George, Charlie, and Morgan all beat us there. Professor Mcgonnagal is waiting there as the last of our house enters.
"Please remain here. Do not leave or anything until we give the all clear. This is very much real." She says and leaves again.
The castle chairs again, causing everyone to scream. The room goes dark. Harry let's go of my hand and I begin to panic. I frantically search for his hand again but don't find it. I feel something wrap around my neck and pull me back. I can't scream and I fight against it. Before I know it something hits my head and it throbs. Suddenly the thing keys go and I open my eyes. Professor Mcgonnagal is there and the thing that wrapped around my neck was a snake. She killed it. She helps me up and to the hospital wing, with the rest of my family. I am examined and we find I can't talk. No noise comes out. This worried everyone and I realize that I want Molly.
I turn to the nurse, Molly.
"Molly? Who is Molly dear?" She asks me.
"Our mother, she wants our mother." Says Ron.
"I'll ask the professor if we can send for her. You relax." She says and leaves.
"What happened in there? One minute you are holding my hand and the next professor Mcgonnagal is killing a snake that was wrapped around your neck." Says Harry.
I shrug. I wish I knew what happened. Maybe the clue would tell me why I can't talk. Ron sits beside me and holds my hand. Just hear about it makes me shake. I knew I shouldn't have gone to the great hall. This is bad. Why can't I talk? It's scary not being able to communicate. That means no magic, no education. The doors open and Molly comes rushing in. She hugs me and I cry into her shoulder. She sits next to me and holds onto me.
"We will figure this out. Your father is coming straight from work. He is furious about this. We aren't leaving until you are better." She says.
The nurse return, "She has nothing medically wrong to keep her from talking. Hopefully it's just bruised voice box and will healing a few weeks."
"What should we do until then? She can't protect herself." Says Molly.
"Maybe Professor Dumbledore can answer you. He will be here shortly." She says and walks away.
