Somi is well known as being a contestant on JYP Entertainment's 2015 survival show, 'SIXTEEN', the show that formed girl group TWICE. Somi later participated in PRODUCE 101 while she was still a trainee under JYP Entertainment. On the show, she ranked first and became a member of I.O.I. The group made their debut 4th May, 2016 and disbanded less than a year later, on the 29th January, 2017.
