"Nona , can you please tell me one more story? Please Nona, I promise to go to sleep after." Her eyes wide begging.
"Leyla my little one, I can see your little eyes droop as tiredness tries to consume you, but you know I am a victim to your pleading blue eyes so I shall allow you one more story before you sleep" Nona said while tucking the little girl into her bed. Leyla was only seven years old at this time. Nona smiled thinking how the last five years had been truly magical having Leyla in her care. The little girl squealed as Nona sighed, and stared at the little girl, she was so headstrong and stubborn as she watched her try to fight the tiredness, she smiled softy as she begun to settle in the small cot.
"Many years ago, before we became werewolves, the land we lived in was different. Wolves were fighting amongst the land we roamed in. There was jealousy, there was slavery and there was a pain amongst the living ." Nona sighed and her forehead wrinkled as she continued with the tale. "There was a war and many were killed. Brother's lost their sisters, wive's lost their husband and parents' lost their children. The land was filled with death and despair, as grief turned into anger and the fighting began again. It was then that a bright light filled the night sky and the Moon appeared."
Nona wistfully continued speaking. "A lady appeared and her beauty was like none other, she had a magical presence about her and all who was fighting suddenly stopped to stare at her beauty. Her voice was like honey as she began to whisper, 'My children, stop this for you are family, you are my children.' The lady's presence was motherly and warm, she provided comfort to those who were grieving, a balm to those who were angry, she was ethereal, she was magic. She smiled softly at the children who were in pain, she looked down at them and spoke of the gifts she would provide them to ensure peace amongst the land as their Luna."
Leyla eyes were becoming weary as Nona caressed her cheek. "The Lady explained that her name was Selene and she was a Moon goddess, everyone stared at her in awe and felt their once cold hearts expand with warmth and kindness. For those who they once wanted to kill, they hugged. Selene explained that she would bless them each with powers to defend their families and that she would help them find happiness. She blessed each and every being with a soul mate one who would bring them nothing but joy and happiness. She blessed each soul mate with a bond so pure and strong that those who did not follow their path would be cursed with a pain so bad that it could kill them. Selene explained her gift was love and happiness. The land was finally filled with laughter, the air was warm and children were smiling."
Leyla's hair was sprayed across her pillow, her eyes kept closing as Nona continued the story. "Those who were once fighting were now embracing each other and those who were once enemies were now family. Selene smiled as she watched her children, she felt at peace and was now able return to her home knowing the land was finally in harmony. As she began to return to the Moon, she warned her children that it was important that her teachings were followed to maintain the balance in the land. She warned them to embrace her gifts and to not decimate the scared bond between mates for there would be consequences that she could not prevent. As she returned to the moon, the night sky lit up with the stars, each star was said to represent the children that Selene could not save in the war. Their sacrifice twinkled through the sky and reminded her children find the light in the darkness."
As Nona finished her tale, she noticed Little Leyla's soft snores as she snuggled into her pillow. She gently kissed her head and stared out the window and noticed the evening was blanketed in darkness, those stars that once twinkled were now dull. She sighed and prayed to Selene for peace amongst the land and hoped that bad omens she could feel were just her imagination.
