Armin asked me to keep us quiet to my fans. He didn't feel comfortable coming out yet. Doesn't want the attention. I haven't come out as bisexual either because I've been having a hard time doing so. I feel pressured to, but I also want to.
Part of me wonders why 'coming out' should be this expectation every queer person should live up to. Heterosexuals don't need to explain themselves. If all I want is to feel normal for who I love, why should I have to make a big deal out of it? For the views? For some initiation? I don't want a pride flag staked on my head for the rest of life and have that become my personality. The pride flag has good intentions being that it shows we're not afraid to express our true selves, but it just feels like an obligation to me. I just want normalcy. For people to judge me for me. Not my sexuality.
But nothing about this is normal.
Someone leaked we were together on the internet. I don't know who, but Twitter and Insta, even SnapChat are in wildfires about it, sent around chain mail after chain mail. People feed off it, get a high from knowing that there's more to me they don't know about. Offended that I didn't feel obligated enough to tell strangers about my personal life. Excited because they know I'm apart of the LGBTQ+ community. But all I hear is 'One of us. One of us. One of us.'
Tears started streaming down my cheeks. I couldn't leave the kitchen table without feeling like I was going to collapse to the ground. No matter where I scrolled, a picture of Armin and I flooded my feed, my phone constantly pinging me notifications after notifications.
When I managed to get to Armin's page on Insta, his one post he made of his dog had over 20k views in the ten minutes the word got out. Then I went to the comments:
