⏤THE TRAGEDY of echo and narcissus is particularly well-known as it is a quite a sorrowful depiction of unrequited love.

a beautiful maiden and a dashing young prince; the perfect characters for a charming tale of love to linger on the lips of poets and courtiers alike, no?

the gods and the fates thought otherwise.

they were both terribly cursed, subjected to fates of eternal suffering no man would envy.

gods are cruel creatures.

they slip on pretentious masks and whisper sweet nothings in the ears of humanity until their brains are muddled with deceit and their eyes are filled with stars.

their lies are spun like a silk web that is painstakingly forged by an arachnid and it drips off their tongues and lips like the sweet juices of adam and eve's forbidden fruit.

echo and narcissus are nothing short of a tragedy.
