B/N=Boyfriend name
I looked at myself in the mirror for the millionth time in the past hour. I didn't know why I cared so much about what I looked like, but for some reason I wanted to impress that creep. I sighed and ruffled my hair. "Y/N, what is wrong with you?" I muttered to myself. "Maybe it's because you talk to yourself when you're all alone." I told myself in an annoyed tone. I rolled my eyes and quickly glanced at my window thinking that I saw a shadow for a second. "Now, you're losing your mind, too." I mentally cursed myself and grabbed my bag before heading out the door.
I arrived at the diner at exactly 7 PM. Not too early, not too late, but right on time. I looked around and realized he wasn't there yet which made my stomach a little uneasy, but I brushed it off and took a seat at a booth towards the back.
I played around with the salt shaker and soon realized that he was 5 minutes late. I sigh realizing that maybe this was a big mistake. Well, I wasn't gonna let this night be a complete waste, so I ordered a milkshake and decided I would give him 5 more minutes.
I hear the door open and I look to see a man rush in as though he ran the whole way here. I then recognized who it was. My date...
He quickly looked around the diner probably thinking I left already. I waved him over and watched his face fill with relief. He hurries down the rows of booths, and sits down across from me. By then, I was hoping I didn't make a mistake by saying yes to this date.
"I-know I'm late! I'm so sorry! I had to make a quick stop." He said panting and wheezing, still out of breath. Damn, this dude must've ran the whole way here. I couldn't help but smile at his loyalty to this date.
Giving me a timid smile, he pulls out a long white box and slides it towards me. "Here, I bought this for you. Thinking about earlier today in the park, it might have been a little creepy to ask you for a date right on the spot." He said waiting for me to open it. Jeez, you think? Man, this dude was the weirdest guy I've ever met, but at the same time he already made me feel a little safe and loved when I was around him. I shook my head and smiled at him. "I thought I might get you a little something as a way of apologizing. I-if it was awkward for you, of course!" He said. I couldn't help but blush at the sweet, and thoughtful gift.
I open the box slowly and see two long-stem roses, with deep red petals. The thorns were removed, and they were bound by a shimmery, black silk ribbon. I touch the soft ribbon and velvety petals admiring how pretty the roses are. I take the roses out of the box and put them up to my nose to smell the aroma. The smell of freshly cut, and fragrant roses filled my nose. "I-it's no bouquet or anything, but I thought that they looked nice." He said scratching his head shyly. I looked up at him. "They're beautiful, thank you." I said meaning it.
I put the roses back in their box and look up to see him with a big, goofy grin plastered on his face . He stares at me for a long time, then quickly reverts his eyes shyly. I giggle thinking maybe I was wrong about this creep. Maybe he was just a social awkward idiot with a big heart. I couldn't deny that I already liked him a little bit.
Then something snapped in my head. "Oh! I haven't even asked what your name is yet!" I said mentally slapping myself. How could I go on a date with someone without even knowing their name. "My name?" He said while the smile on his face disappeared into a frown and his gaze drifts to the side. "I really don't like my name...Honestly, I'd rather be called something else, like a nickname, or something." He said as though his name was a cuss word. Damn, how bad could it be? "Okay, I guess. How about I call you...B/N?" I said hoping it wasn't too cringy.
"It's perfect! Thank you, Y/N!" He said taking my hand once more smiling so wide I thought he would break his face. "I-it's nothing." I mumbled under my breath trying to hide how red my face was.
When I did recover and decide to look up, I saw those big, blue eyes staring straight back at me. I couldn't help, but stare at their deep, blue hue. "Are we having a moment here or what?"   B/N asked finally speaking up. There was no hiding my red face this time. "Sorry!" I quickly said mentally slapping myself for the billionth time. Jeez, I have never felt this way about anyone in such a short time. What was wrong with me? I guess I was the creep now.
He chuckles and shakes his head. "Hey, hey, there's nothing to be sorry for!" He reassured me with a soft smile. At the same time, I could hear a bit of cockiness in his voice. That was hot.
"Wanna share this with me?" I ask pointing to my half-eaten milkshake hoping to break the tension. "Hey, I was supposed to buy you something." He says disappointed. "But you did but me something." I said pointing to the roses. "And besides I don't think I can finish all this." I said which was a total lie being the fatass I am, but I wanted him to enjoy himself as well.
"Man, our first date and you're the one buying. I'm terrible at this." He stated taking a drink of the milkshake. "It's ok. You can buy next time." I said nonchalant shrugging my shoulders.
His eyes go wide and he stares at me with surprise. "N-next time? You want to meet up again?" He asks like I was never gonna talk to him again after this. I have to admit, I probably wouldn't have, but this date went really well and I could tell I liked him. "Yeah, this wasn't terrible, so...yeah." I said. His face burns as red as mine, and he stammers wildly trying to talk to me in an explosion of joy.
"I-I mean, I guess it wasn't? I mean, I don't think so, but I don't want to argue with you." He says all in a jumble making it hard to understand him. Just when I think he couldn't get any cuter. I didn't even know I could make anyone this happy.
As much fun as this was, it was getting late. "It's almost dark out? How about we continue this on our next date?" I ask rubbing my eyes to show him that I was getting tired. "Do you have a pen?" I asked while pulling a napkin out of the dispenser that was on our table. "Oh, I think I do." He says. He digs around in his pocket for a second and pulls out a pen.
I write my number on it and put a little heart after my name, and hand it back to him. "Call me and we'll plan out our next date, okay?" I say beaming. I had to admit I was getting pretty excited for our next date already.
He gazes down at the number in complete awe before looking back to me. "Of course! I'd love to see you again!" I pay for the shake and wave bye before leaving the diner...
I practically skip all the way home ignoring the feeling that I was being watched once more. I enter the quiet apartment and head straight to my room. Nope, not gonna even acknowledge Lucy and her "study partner" tonight.
I flopped down on my bed and smell the roses that already meant so much to me. I gently rest them on the nightstand and fall into a deep sleep, the day replaying in my head.
