There in the corner of the library sat at the table was a young male, quietly reading with the help of a candle close to its end. She walked towards him, smiling. Without a word, she blew out the candle before replacing it with a new one, causing the male to lift his head from his book, silently observing the person standing in front of him, her silhouette illuminated by the subtle light from the small bit of fire.

It was not long before the male had fallen asleep on her laps with a book covering his face, leaving only her awake. A tear rolled down her cheek as if it had been welled up for too long. She closed her eyes, her mind in chaos.

It was too much.

She needed to hold back.

She couldn't handle it any longer.

She had to.

There was someone who cared.

It was too late.

...

There she laid on the floor next to the bed, her body numb and cold. The blood had slowly drained from her face, the last of it faint on her lips. She finally gave in.

...

She jerked awake with a light gasp.

A nightmare.

Standing up from the table, she closed the book in her hand and walked away. As she reached closer to the forgotten corner of this old library, her heart became heavier. She crouched down and carefully placed the book in her hands back where it belonged.

Sigh

She hung her head low, still crouching, as she tried to step into reality. Before she could think any further, a set of subtle footsteps walked towards her. Knowing exactly who it was, she slowly stood up and walked towards the other, stopping only when she was a few centimetres away.

The male fixed his round thin-rimmed glasses as she observed him. He slightly opened his arms and she threw herself into them at once. He gently caressed her head,

"Not your fault" he spoke in a comforting whisper and when there was no response, he said again, "Just don't leave me"

She snuggled up against his chest as it vibrated with his words,

"Never again. Not this lifetime nor the ones to come"
