prehistoric feelings (Ben pincus x reader)

"You have eight hours to complete a detailed drawing using one or more reference photos from our sponsors, Jurassic worlds very own park given to us by Mrs Pincus! Breaks are unlimited as we don't want any of you aspiring artists to damage your talented hands, time starts now but begin when you're ready"

I flex my fingers, picking up my sharpened pencil and beginning to sketch a rough outline, my best friend sitting near me drinking his carob juice and sharpening the coloured pencils

"I don't know how you do it N/n but this already looks awesome"

"Benny" I look over to him "its just an outline at the moment like... a squiggly mess basically"

"Maybe so but it's your drawing and I like it anyway"

I laugh, grabbing a rubber and erasing the messy lines and redrawing them

It was about an hour before i had a basic sketch I was happy with and finally got onto details

The brachiosaurus looked okay, the background still basic outlines

"Benny where should I put the chiaroscuro?"

"Huh?"

"The light point"

"Oh! Maybe do it so it's shining down? Against the back, I think that would be cool"

I nod, faintly outlining where the light would hit before continuing to add details

Halfway through and all the detailing was done to a decent point, now the colour (Help I don't know anything about drawing! Google is helping me, this is gonna end badly)

"N/n, maybe you should take a break"

"I've only got four hours left, I'll take a break after, promise"

Ben groans grabbing the green pencil from my hand

"Your health is important so take a break"

A sigh escapes my mouth as I grab the bottle from my bag, drinking its contents before looking at Ben again

"Can I have the pencil back? I've almost finished the basic part of the grass"

"Eat something and then maybe"

Benny I love you but give me the pencil

I bite back a groan, grabbing a carob bar from my bag and eating it

Carob bars were... iffy yo be honest but they always taste better with Ben around

And having already gotten used to the taste by them being one of the few 'nice' things Ben would eat besides fruit and him always carrying them around I could actually stomach them

Finishing the food I place the wrapper in my pocket, holding my hand out to Ben

"Can I have the pencil now?"

"Say it politely"

"Please can I have the pencil back benny?"

He hands it to me with a shake of his head, taking a sip from his juice again as I continue the drawing

An hour later he speaks again, me finally finishing most of the background and moving onto the sky detail

"Thats wasn't much of a break N/n"

"Huh?"

I finish a cloud moving onto the one by the dinosaurs neck

"You need to stretch your legs for a minute"

The peach coloured pencil scratches the page loudly as I look at the lead, grabbing the shaperner after seen the dulled tip

Ben sighs, grabbing my arm and dragging my to a standing position

I forgot how freakishly strong he can be when he wants to be

"There we go, don't you dare sit back down strech your legs you've been doing this for five hours now basically non stop"

"I need to finish it though, I've got the clouds and the dinosaurs to finish"

I finish sharpening the pencil, taking a seat and continuing on the cloud

I lost track of time by now, finishing up the last details while listening to Ben complain

"I don't want to go to camp, what if something eats us?!"

"I'd protect you with my knife, easy"

"Its a dinosaur N/n, a knife wouldn't help much I would've already eaten your head by the time you stabbed it"

"It gives you and anyone else enough time to run though Benny, that's what matters to me"

It goes silent for a moment, making me turn my head to the boy who seemed to be staring at me with a look i couldn't quite identify

"Artists you have ten minutes left, get your masterpieces completed!"

I stare at the drawing infront of me, seeing it to a point I liked and placed the pencil down and resting my head on Ben's shoulder

"Uhh N/n? What are you doing?"

"Leaning on you, sorry I should've asked"

I go to sit up before Ben stops me

"N-No its okay"

He places his head on mine making me smile allowing the two of us to fall into a peaceful silence

"Times up people, please wait in the other room while we judge your works"

I sit up, allowing Ben to stand as I copy his movements, my knees buckling as I do so making me stumble into Ben

"Sorry... I should've listened to you huh?"

"Yeah, you should've, silly"

I laugh quietly, standing upright feeling embarrassed and slightly flustered by Ben's laugh

We walk out of the room with the other people waiting for them to tell is who won

The door creaks as Ben's mom and the 'judges' step into the room

"After some careful consideration myself and my peers have chosen a winner, im proud to announce that miss Y/n L/ns drawing of the brachiosaurus in extreme detail has won!"

(Incase you're wondering what you drew it's the image at the top but I'm gonna put it here as well. Just imagine it more drawing looking)

I smile, turning my head to Ben

"Looks like we're both going to camp Benny!"
