As I held the crown in my hands, time seemed to slow to a crawl. I drank in every inch of you, or at least as much as I could. I couldn't believe how strong your grip on my heart was.
I was enraptured.
But gazing upon you wasn't complete with your head bowed to me. I gently placed your new crown on your head, and ran my hands down the sides of your face. Not the outright strongest jaw in Narnia, but the most weathered - you felt and looked like you've survived a thousand perils already.
I tilted your face up to meet me and my heartbeat quickened. Even more so than the struggles you've fought through, what I saw most in you was your unflinching kindness. Warmth.
And in that moment I knew exactly what Narnian title I would bestow upon you.
...Did you know that "cordial" also means "belonging to the heart?" Well, in that moment, my dearest David, I knew you would belong to mine.
"I proclaim you King David...the Cordial."

I've loved you ever since I named you.
