Danny had a perfectly normal, boring life.
He worked at a clinic which wasn't a terrible gig, he had a two bedroom apartment, a somewhat shitty but still operational car and normal, if not loud, neighbours.
Well...His next door neighbour, Jorel, was not normal.
From their occasional small talk whenever they bumped into each other, Danny had learned that Jorel didn't get out much during the day. He'd also seen Jorel collecting broken glass and rain water which...whatever, wasn't hurting anyone.
He also brought a cat with him everywhere. The cat was black and fluffy, her glowing orange eyes seeming to stare directly into Danny's soul every time he looked at her. He'd been told her name was Harriet.
But still, the guy wasn't hurting anyone and so he figured he'd leave Jorel to his business.
~!~!~!~
Danny hated walking home alone at night.
It was pleasant to a certain degree, he could listen to his music while he walked and that was about all the perks he could think of.
Hearing something down an alley, Danny started to turn the other way in order to mind his business and not become a stupid guy in a horror movie but he froze when he heard a voice yell in his direction.
"Hey! Pretty boy!!"
Danny ignored them, starting to walk off before a hand grabbed his arm, yanking him around and Danny wrinkled his nose at the sheer amount of alcohol he could smell on the other.
"Didn't you hear me?" The man slurred and Danny grit his teeth,
"Yea I heard you, I also like minding my goddamn business"
Danny yanked his arm away only for the man to grab it again, harder.
"C'mon pretty boy, y'don't gotta run"
The man's free hand came up to brush Danny's hair from his face. Thoroughly creeped out, Danny tried shaking the man's hand off of him only for the man to laugh,
"Hey Vince! We got a struggler!"
Another man, also reeking of alcohol, came up, grinning at Danny who was getting ready to punch the motherfuckers in the face.
"C'mon pretty thing" the second man cooed, "stop strugglin"
"Fuck off" Danny said and then stopped as a tremor started in the earth. He was worried it was an earthquake for maybe ten seconds before a giant...plant came from the concrete, wrapping around the second man and tossing him into a dumpster.
The first man let go of Danny, thankfully and the vine grabbed him next, holding him upside down. Danny gaped at the scene in utter shock before he heard a familiar voice,
"These guys bugging you?"
Danny looked over at Jorel who, as usual, had Harriet on his shoulder. Danny almost shrunk under Jorel's dark gaze and Harriet's orange one combined.
"I'm uh...holy fuck-yea no I'm fine" Danny said, staring at the vine which dropped the first man who ran off to his friend. Danny couldn't tear his eyes away from the vine which slowly sunk back into the ground.
"You okay?" He could faintly hear Jorel ask, his head was swimming and his knees felt weak. His arms were heavy and he felt like vomiting all over his sweater.
"Danny?" He heard Jorel ask and Danny only managed to look at Jorel before he promptly passed out.
