"Koa!" I scream over the raging fire. "Koa! Where are you?!" My voice cracks as I sweep my gaze across the flames, searching for any sign of him. I can't lose him. Can't. No. I'd be gone without him. Gone. Lost. Gone. Dead. Gone. My breath quickens as I pull at my hair, tears falling fast down my cheeks. I glance all around me, turning in circles, looking for him. I need him. need. need... him.
"Koa!" I yell again, peering through the flames. Smoke claws at my lungs as I cough, shielding my eyes with my hand as I walk closer to the fire.
"Aden!" Someone yells behind me. I quickly turn around, the flutter of hope inside my chest falling flat when I realize it's not Koa.
"What are you doing?!" They yell.
I ignore them, turning back around and searching through the flames.
"Aden... Aden, stop." the voice inches closer, growing more panicked by the second. "We'll find— Aden! Stop!"
It was just me and the fire
The fire and me
make up your mind
I step into the flames.
