I stood in front of my mirror making sure I hadn't gotten any more scales over the past month. My mother was freaking out about how strong I was getting and had forbidden me from trying any more magic. Sure I still did small wind spells in her absence but most of the time it was as if she had doubled ears and eyes. I put on some clothes and carefully went down the stairs careful not to make any noises and alert my mother.

"Zach, what are you doing" my mom's voice bounced off the walls.

I turned around to find my mom looking at me with a tired look in her eye.

"Nothing"

"Then why are your laces tied"

'Shoot'

"I wanted to go to town"

"Alone?"

"No Desire volunteered to follow me"

"Okay don't take long and no magic"

I sighed and continued my descent down the stairs only to meet another bundle of trouble.

"I'm following you to the town" I winced and looked at Desire putting my superior mode on

"Yes, you are"

She looked dumbfounded at my sudden change in attitude and followed me to the kitchen her bunny ears dropping.

"Look I'm sorry but I can't stay in this house for another day without stepping outside"

She smiled and nodded at me informing me to we're something less free and to hide my necklace and ring.

I nodded knowing this would probably be necessary if this world had theifs.

I removed my jewelry and hid them under the table.

"I'm ready"

Desire probably didn't have any more pointers to give me or she was afraid she might cross the line with some of them.

We walked outside and she quickly put a patch of dirt on my face. I rubbed it off my face and glared at her and she looked back at me realizing what she had done and gave me a pleading look. I was no brat so I went along with it before wiping some of the mud off my face. In my past life if I got a speck of mud into the house the result was being grounded.

"So what now"

I looked blankly at Desire as she asked that question.

She ignored my gaze and suggested we buy some new spices for mama (whose name turned out to be Sylvia)

I was bored but it was either this or being stuck in the house all day. Then it caught my eye a ball and a few crying sounds. I ran to the source of the crying and investigated the place where the crying was coming from but I couldn't see anything I slumped my back on the wall screaming as I heard a voice. The slab I had been resting on had all of a sudden turned into a boy and I wowed.

I started clapping and looked at the wide-eyed boy with a smile on my face. He eyed my clothes and snarled

"Noble"

I frowned at that word and decided to ask the boy some questions

"Where you the one crying a few seconds ago"

The boy turned white and shaped his head curtly.

"Okay," but I wasn't done yet.

From the looks of it, the boy had been severely beaten and was obviously a Fox due to the wild trashing of his single tail.

"I was just heading home do you want to come"

The boy looked at me incredulously and picked up a stone throwing at my face.

"You're not a clone"

"Why would I be," I said scratching my forehead to make it seem like the stone had hit me disabling the thin wind sheet I had in front of me.

The boy was dumbfounded and asked

"What are you"

I didn't know what he meant but I could only think of one thing.

"Denjr," I said slowly.

"How many scales"

I didn't want to scare him too much so I quickly replied

"Two"

He looked back at his single tail and sighed.

"If this is a prank stop, it's not funny"

I shake my head and walked towards him.

He quickly wiped a tear off his face and slowly nodded.

'Score'

I beckoned him to follow me kicking a few stones as I went to where last I saw Desire. Turns out she was still there arguing about the price and I sighed. I tugged her clothing and she looked at me holding up her hands to the seller's face.

"Oh, your back, let's start going this seller obviously lost any sense in the business."

She hadn't noticed the boy beside me and I dragged him carefully not to go too fast and wiped sweat off my face.

'~'

Desire still hadn't paid any attention to us for which I was both grateful and annoyed. I looked back at the boy realizing he was not behind me. I ran around finally finding him in front of the nearby woods.

"You are fast"

He looked at me pointing into the woods. I shared my head before an itching feeling in me persuaded me to go closer to the woods

"Do you feel it" He nodded and I against all reason followed him into the forest. Maybe it was just pure stupidness or we were being naive but this night was different than all the other nights in the month of April. Life was born.
