idol/celebrity

The audience was gazing

upon him in wonder

as his eyes sparkled

under the lights of the stage.

He belted lyrics of friendship,

crooned words of love,

swayed, a smile peeking

from behind the microphone in his hand.

Sometimes he was caught up

in his own act, imagining,

feeling the warmth from his fans,

until the lights shut off,

the makeup melts off,

and he's left alone.

Even in the coziest

ambience of visited coffee shops.

Even in the bars or

the occasional bookstores.

Even in full concert,

large stadiums—he was lonely.

No one knew him,

no one for himself,

only his guitar, paper, and pen—

a complicated relationship

that never offered full emotional release.

I know that this book is supposed to be for one-shots, but I'm still working on #3 and not making much progress on it. School and work is hard to juggle, let alone set aside the time and energy to write anything that isn't homework. 😅

But I wrote this today (10/03/2021) on a whim while retyping the poems I have, and I really liked it.

I hope you like it. Let me know what you think. 😊
