The Mission

As long as Jake could remember he had always wanted to visit the other planet, the one so many people talked about. That’s why when he received his Letter of admissions into the Kroterain Space Program He was consumed with Joy. He knew his letter of acceptance would allow him to be part of project green and be one of the first astronauts to set foot on the planet in 5 years.

Jake Quickly packed up his bags and waited for the bus to pick him up. The bus finally pulled up around noon and Jake quickly got on the bus sitting next to an elderly man. The elderly man looked at him and said.” So where you off to?” Jake replied with a smile. “I’m on my way to Krosa academy.” The rest of trip the two remained silent until Jake got to his stop and the old man stopped him. “If yer goanna be one of those Astronauts that go on that project green be careful I have heard stories about that place and what happened there.”  “I will” Jake said as he walked off the bus. He looked up at the academy it was a marvelous sight the academy itself consisted of three large domes connected together, but the dorms were massive towers connected to the two outside domes.

After a week in the academy Jake had already made it to the top ten lists and had been placed in all honors classes. One Friday night a few months later he received an email from the project green Coordinator saying he was accepted into the mission and he would begin classes mission related Monday. Monday Jake walked up to his specialized class and walked in the room along with five other students before a Middle-aged man closed and locked the door.  ‘Welcome to project green, you all have been accepted into this program because you have special skills.’ The classes continued for the next five months until one day when walking in the board said “Mission Prep-Launch 01900 hours”

Jake took his seat waiting for the professor, but a short elderly man who was walking with a cane came in instead. “Hello Class I am professor Hezinbin I will be your prep officer today” He said in a thick accent. Jake raised his hand and said “what happened to our old professor” “He was removed from the program” He explained. “Now if I can get started, For this mission you will need to wear these specialized masks.” He said holding up a high-tech Gas mask. “The planet you will be visiting has a particularly heavy amount of pollution, you will also need to wear specialized suits to protect you from the planets radiation. That is all that you need to know for now launch is at 0 1900 hours” He finished and walked out of the room.

Jake Looked at the clock and realized he still had two hours until the launch; He quietly packed up his stuff and walked to the loading dock. The other students arrived one by one along with the launch prep guide. They put on their suits and masks and stepped into the rocket, Dr. Hizenbin closed and sealed the doors. Jake took his seat and strapped in, over the intercom he heard” Countdown to launch…10….9…8…7…6..5…4…3…2…1” and with that the rocket launched and left the atmosphere.

          During the ride Jake thought about how long he had waited for this. He remembered how at the age of five he watched a documentary about how scientists thought the planet at one point contained life, or how about they had discovered large oddly shaped pillars coming out of certain places on the planet. He also remembered five years ago when the original project green team was lost forever shortly reaching the planet. Coming out of his nostalgic state he watched as the planet came into view the swirling black and brown clouds filled pollution, black oceans covered a majority of the planet. The rocket Landed and they walked out. Miles upon Miles of tall steal and stone pillars. Jake having stepped off first looked back at the rest of his fellow crew and said” This is it boys, Welcome to Project green, Welcome to Planet Earth….”
