"By the Great Earthen Spirits, this in unexplainable! Impossible! Against all traditions of the Aurealian legacy! How could something like this have happened?"Father growled outraged. The cave floor trembled as he paced to and fro, rattling his neck frills while low snarls rasped rom in jaws. He slapped the tip of his tail sharply against the stone floor, clacking his tail blades in agitation.

Mother raised her head and growled at her mate. Her napse chords twitched in annoyance as she watched him pace endlessly. Her pupils, normally circular like the moon, narrowed into thin diamonds. "How could you say that dearest, a miracle has happened, within our family nonetheless? Yet you treat it like a great folly and a disgrace."

Father chuffed, grumbling deep in his throat. His napse chords squirmed and wriggled like a freshly picked worm, giving away his anger. "A miracle, more of a fluke of nature. You know this is unordinary, Nova, nothing like this has ever occurred in our colony before."

The great creatures squabbled, uttering low growls and rasping hisses of my my people's language . They were both unaware of the tiny creature watching them.

I cringed timidly, my head and tail low while my naps chords trembled. I could hear my parents' mental argument within my own head, and I knew they were arguing about me. I whimpered meekly to myself, letting my chords droop in guilt.

What had I done wrong? I had been playing a game of find the crystals with my sisters when I heard my temporary names being snarled by Father. I had crept out from our play chamber and into the chamber where my parents slept. There I crouched behind the opening and listened to their bantering. Their words and thoughts were a jumble in my mind, and I couldn't understand what they were speaking about. Though I heard my names 'Little Green' and "Dearest Emerald" uttered more than once, and each time was spoken with anger.

What did I do wrong? I always behaved well in the presence of my mother and father, I Never bit anyone, and I never clawed or spat at my brothers. I always cleaned my scales when they were dirty, and washed my fangs when they were messy. I even let Nana nuzzle and lick me after her daily visits. I am good, so why are Mother and Father angry at me?

Father calmed down and his pupils' enlarged. He lay on his belly with his forelimbs stretched and his tail curved to his side. Mother stood over him, a towering shadow, looking down on him with an intense gaze. She prodded his napse chords with her own, sensing his relaxed state, and rested beside him. She was so much bigger than him, I thought amazed, and her wings made her seem like more of a giant. Females of my kind were supposed to be bigger than the males, but she was exceptionally huge. Would I ever grow to be that big? Mother entwined her napse chords with his and licked him tenderly. Father responded with a thrum and nuzzled her neck.

I understand your bafflement, mylove. But you mustn't see this as a disgrace, but rather a great miracle, a blessing.

I never said it was a disgrace, but unnatural. Father grumbled. Mother snorted.

As unnatural as it is for any Aurealian to choose a soul companion. A miracle has occurred; our smallest child has formed the Eternal Bond with one of the Chozo. She has entwined her mind and her soul to another, in doing so found her guardian spirit. This is what our kind and the Chozo desperately wished for, for our children to create the Bond their own, thus the great link between our species shall never be forgotten

Father snapped his jaws with a metallic clack. "That is exactly my point Nova, our little one didn't create the bond with one of the Chozo; she created the bond with an outsider. A half-blooded runt they took under their wing. She is a foreigner to this land and to our own kind, with no understanding of our ways and no decency to embrace our colony as her allies." His frills rattle in disgust as he curls his lip.

Mother gives him a bemused look. "That's what's tugging your tail, the fact she is not of the Chozo species and she is from another land? Since when has that mattered, we choose our companions based on the content of their hearts, not by blood or origin. You saw how our daughter directly approached her, paying no mind to the others, she knew the girl was a good soul and she chose that soul to become a part of hers. There is nothing shameful about it."

"It is not a Chozo, it is an outsider."

Mother put her claw down. "Since when has it mattered being a Chozo or not. Any sentient being can become bonded to our kind, it just so happens the Chozo are the only other sentient species on Zebes. Because of it we've made it tradition to bond ourselves to the Chozo, but traditions change."

"Perhaps you're right." Grumbled Father. But it will not bide well among the colony, and it does not bide well with me. I fear for my daughter's safety with that creature. I do not know what lies in her heart or what intentions she has. I can only hope that she will cherish our child as much as we do."
