"and the nominees for best newcomer are..."
athena zoned out, her heart pounding in her chest. they knew the chances of them winning the first ever grammy they were nominated for was pretty slim but there was always that tiny bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, a miracle could happen.
"and the grammy award for best newcomer goes to..." the presenter paused and athena felt austin squeeze her hand gently, the comforting gesture meaning everything to the girl in that moment.
"last stop before midnight!"
athena's heart stopped, dropping austin's hand in shock as she was pulled into a group hug with her bandmates.
"we won." she muttered, grinning into the group hug.
the world felt like it was moving in slow motion as the five of them made their way onto the stage and shook hands with the presenter, accepting their first ever grammy award.
"wow okay, this was not the outcome we were expecting." lachie spoke and the crowd laughed lightly.
"we'd just like to first of all thank everyone who helped us with recording and producing this album. taylor, chris, samantha, allie, mikki, we couldn't have done this without you. uhh..." he trailed off, unsure of what else to say. athena took the microphone.
"the fans, who were there and supported us every step of the way and helped us grow from a little unknown aussie pub band into the group we are today." she said, and the rest of the band nodded in agreement. without the fans they would have been nothing.
"also our families back home in australia who let us move across the world to give this thing a shot. i know our mums were about ready to drag us home after the first month, but we're all so glad they didn't cause look at us now." lexi spoke next, before passing the microphone to liam.
"finally we'd like to thank our partners, kiara, nick and austin," he gestured to himself, lachie and athena as he spoke. "thanks for always being there to listen to new song ideas and we're really sorry that you've all signed up for a lifetime of having songs written about you."
he passed the microphone to andie.
"i think we've just about covered everything, thank you to the academy for this award, we will remember this moment for the rest of our lives." she said, as the music began to play them off the stage.
"thank you!" they all sung out together, before exiting the stage as grammy award winning artists, excited to relax and celebrate before they had to perform later in the show.
