In his defence Niklaus Mikaelson didn't know he had sex with THE scarlet witch, it was just a meaningless one night stand to him and he didn't know he could have children. Klaus was with his one night stand Anne, when she gave birth to Pandora. He didn't want to be like his father, Mikael so he tried to love and support his daughter until he was dead.
