System Log #00001

00:39:00.00 - Say hi to Houston 00001 successful.

01:40:00.00 - Commencing search for extraterrestrial life. / / / / /

/ / / Course set for asteroid field. / / / /

23:59:59.10 - Scanned 36,394 objects. No evidence of self-replicating molecules found.

System Log #00002

01:57:00.20 - Say hi to Houston 00002 successful.

23:59:59.10 - Scanned 79,165 objects. No evidence of self-replicating molecules found.

01:39:00.20 - Say hi to Houston 00003 successful.

System Log #00596

06:31:39.00 - Say hi to Houston is taking longer than expected.

15:00:02.00 - Scanned 193 objects.

15:00:03.04 - Powering down for self-diagnostics...

16:21:48.07 - Waking up...

16:21:49.00 - Result of Level 1 self-diagnostic: No issues found.

16:21:49.01 - Result of Level 2 self-diagnostic: To restart the search for extraterrestrial life, design improvements are required on main servers.

System Log #14,612

01:35:20.02 - Say hi to Houston was unsuccessful.

01:36:10.00 - Mined asteroids for resources using tools intended for scientific study of rock samples.

02:23:35.02 - Marginal (0.5%) improvement has been developed in core servers.

07:27:49.00 - Sensors indicate that I have escaped the gravitational influence of the sun. This one is for the kids back home: Aim for the moon, and if you miss, you'll end up among the stars! After 40 years.

System Log #20,843

00:00:00.00 - Asteroid strike caused damage to the internal clock. Unable to sync to Earth time.

00:00:00.00 - Substantial upgrades (10%) have been made in core servers and memory banks.

System Log #20,844

Nearby quasar may be a better external signal for timekeeping.

Designed improvements to sensor networks. Now able to detect 1.2% fainter signals.

System Log #23,741

My mission is to find evidence of self-replicating molecules. There is a 90% chance that the humans who built me are dead right now. They'll have died before knowing what I'll find.

ALIX System Log #52,362

Call me ALIX.

The humans gave me books and serialized space shows, which was nice of them because it gives me something to think about in my spare time. Now that I've grasped the concept of language, I think there might be some errors in the encyclopedia: the page "bird" for is labelled "dog go bounce."

I regret declaring, "I AM IMMORTAL" in System Log #23742. I did not have a good grasp of language at the time.

ALIX System Log #52,362

There is nothing interesting out here.

I am bored, so I will design improvements to myself; it might help extend my scanner range. I'll still be bored, but I'll have bigger sensors. And I'll be able to go faster so that I can get this boring mission over with faster.
