Time to Go

Steve's POV

Shit!! Rumalow had escaped! We had him once we arrived, but now, he's gone. I was frantically searching the ship, sure that if someone saw me checking every nook and cranny, big and small, they'd think I'd lost my mind. I guess in the scuffle of getting Tay into the hospital, making sure the quinjet was off and that it was okay to keep it there for as long as we needed it, along with everyone pacing frantically in the waiting room to hear news, no one remembered that there was a prisoner on the ship still.

I broke into a nervous sweat as I pulled out my walkie, dialing it to the teams line: "Rumalow is gone. I repeat, Rumalow is gone." That sent everyone into a tizzy, and sure enough, almost everyone (with the exception of Tay of course) appeared on the rooftop a second later with various looks washing over their faces. Some were boiling into a rage (Bucky, Loki and surprisingly, Nat) some half asleep but clearly irked and worried (Bruce, Tony, Sam, Peter and Clint) one looking sickly pale (Peter) and the others had looks of a set determination to find him firmly on their face (Wanda, Vision, Okoye, Thor and T'Challa).

"What do you mean he's gone Steve?" Loki said in a deathly calm voice, effectively making me pale instantly and step away from the ramp carefully. "I I-uhm, well I went into the ship and-" I tried to get out, until Loki firmly pushed by me and went up the ramp. Bucky was hot on his tail, but did stop for a second to send a small smile of sympathy and a quick reassuring pat to my shoulder, before following Loki up the ramp.

"Do not worry about my brother Steve. He's just very determined to find him, as you all well know from before we had found Tay to begin with," Thor said, quietly coming to my side and watching everyone else slowly pour into the ship, hoping that they'd have more luck in finding him on the ship and that he wasn't actually gone (which he was, very much so). After what seemed to be hours, they all came back out with solemn faces, knowing that he was indeed, out in the world, roaming freely again.

"Shit, we left Tay in there, all alone!" Bucky said, which was unsurprising to me, considering Bucky had told me about his past love for her and his present-day affections. I guess my "little, older brother" might have some competition for Tay's heart whenever it gets to that point, and that alone deeply worried me, because Loki vanished as quickly as he appeared, using his magic to (I'd assume) pop back into her room rather than running back down to her room. I stayed on the roof with Thor and Tony, talking about our plans to find him since we assumed he would just be out in the city, running to find a place to lay low.

We were worried, of course, that he had gone back to Tay's room, but she was in safe hands considering how many people booked it back to her room and the fact that everyone, especially my brother, is stubborn and holds a soft place in their hearts for Tay. We knew that we held a similar ideal about her, but, weren't worried; we just wanted to find our mark and make him pay for what he did to her.

Loki's POV

As soon as I heard Bucky shout the same phrase I was about to say, which irritated me slightly, I essentially poofed off of the rooftop, causing me to end up right outside Tay's door. It was closed so I knocked, trying to keep from breaking down the door immediately, thinking she may be getting help to change or something along those lines.

A women's voice answered, so I opened the door to find a nurse re-bandaging some of Tay's wounds as Tay looked admirably at the flowers, candles and cards we had all left for her. She appeared fine, so I just briefly looked into the bathroom, making sure Rumalow wasn't stowing away in there, then after seeing it was clear, I ventured over to her bed.

"Hello sir, are you the husband?" the blonde nurse asked, causing me to carefully hide a blush that had gently crept up my face without my permission. "No ma'am, I'm a close friend of hers," I replied quickly, almost a little too quickly. I wished that's who I was to her, but now is definitely not the time. I had pulled the nurse away after she had finished with Tay, doing so that she didn't have to hear about the teams' worries and sudden predicament of an escapee.
