Black pools of sorrow
devour me when I'm not looking
—it comes in unexpected times—
when I left my mind too long
in the light—then the darkness
comes—slowly, hungrily—
until it swallows me whole
and won't let me up until
I've given it free control
over my life

Dark voices of regret
crowd my dreams
when I'm not duly attentive
—when I let my mind wander
into roads not taken—they come
—quickly, and often in hordes—
until they're all my thoughts
and won't let me go unless
I believe them and become
who they told me to be

When the night comes
I can't run because
no matter what I do
it will always overtake me
