A Rose By Any Other Name

Flaky looked back at their father's house a few times before deciding whether or not they truly wanted to do this. They looked at their father who was currently helping them back everything in their car. They glanced at their car.

"You ready to head out?" Flaky's father snapped them out of their trance.

They looked at the smiling man. Flaky could have swore that his eyes were watery.

"Yeah. I think I'm good." Flaky hesitantly reached for the car handle.

"Wait! I need to get something!"

Flaky watched their father run into the house and a few minutes later come back with a few books in his hands.

"Here. A few Shakespeare books I thought you might like."

"Aw thanks dad." Flaky grabbed the books, a bit uncertain. They rarely ever read that much unless it was homework. Shakespeare was definitely more in the advance category.

"I'm gonna miss you my rose." He pulled Flaky in for a hug.

'His rose'. A name the man was very confident about in the creativity. In his eyes it described Flaky perfectly. Sweet but prickly.

Flaky hugged the man back anxious because they knew the moment they let go, it would be time to leave. They didn't know when they would be back. They didn't know if he would visit them. They didn't know what this town would be like. The only reason they were moving there was because that's where their mother had grown up. They thought they would feel somehow closer to her if they moved to the town she had grown up in.

The two let each other go.

"I love you pa. I'll come to visit! Promise!"

"You better!" Flaky's father said in a joking tone.

With that, Flaky got in the car, put the key in, and drove off.

"Are you sure I'm heading the right direction?"

"Of course! I can't believe you don't trust me!"

"I do trust you! You're just a little absent minded sometimes!"

"I am not!" The voice on the other line poorly acted betrayed and hurt by the accusation.

"Okay, but Cuddles, if I end up in the middle of no where, I'm blaming you."

"Okay okay, if that happens you can totally kill me when you get here!"

Flaky chuckled. Cuddles has been their best friend since they were three and he was still a baby. He was like a younger brother figure to them. Cuddles claimed the town was 'difficult to find' and that they wouldn't be able to find it on a map... for whatever reason.

"I'm close right?"

"Yeah yeah! You'll be here any second! I can't wait to show you everyone!"

"Do you just know everyone in town or what?"

"Well I know a lot of towns folk. I'll show you all of my friends!"

"Pfft. Sounds like you just collect them and show them off to others."

"I do." Cuddles joked.

"Funny. Oh! I think I see you!" Flaky looked out the window to see a yellow bunny leaning against a wall.

"I see you too!!"

Flaky watched Cuddles jump up and down exited to see his friend.

Flaky stopped the car to let Cuddles jump in so they can go to Cuddles' place.

"You'll be my roommate until you can get your own apartment!" Cuddles smiled at his friend over excited to see them again.

"Sounds good."

"You're gonna love everyone -take a left turn- here! And I'm sure they're gonna love you!"

"You think?" Flaky responded only half paying attention so they could keep their eyes on the road.

"Definitely!"

"Who do you think I'll like the most?" Flaky asked, mainly to keep the boy occupied.

"Hmm... —Cuddles looked down next to him taking note of the Shakespeare books— probably Flippy."

"You think?"

"Yeah, he likes reading hard-to-understand books too." Cuddles teased.

"Okay, for-your-information, I've never read a Shakespeare book in my life."

"Well when Flippy takes every chance he can to hang out with you I'm sure he'll spend hours talking about what these books mean."

"Fun."

"Yeah, definitely has never managed to bore me." Cuddles sarcasm was rare but not impossible.

"I'm sure he's a very pleasant man."

"Then I'll introduce you to him first if you find him so pleasant!"

"I would love that."

"Great than I'll- oh! Here's my place!" Cuddles interrupted himself to point towards his house.

Flaky found it odd that Cuddles lived in a house by himself considering he was only nineteen. Sure Flaky was only twenty-two and moving out but at least they were going with a roommate first.

It was 9:36 when Cuddles and Flaky moved everything in the house.

"Alright! —Flaky let out a sigh— I think I'm gonna go to sleep now. You can show me around tomorrow okay?"

Cuddles nodded taking note of his friend's tired state.

"Goodnight Flaky."

Authors note; Shakespeare is awesome, change my mind. The theme of Shakespeare in the title and chapter titles is inspired off of a Flowerfell fanfic I read a while ago when I was still into Flowerfell. Every chapter title will be like that. I might even make references to quotes in later chapters (there are non in this one.)

Today's quote; "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" -Shakespeare for Romeo and Juliet
