Dex stared at his mother's crumpled form.
He let out a dry laugh.
"Well that went better than expected"
He was surprised to realize that it came from him
He picked her up by her armpits. Bex tore her arms from her brothers and picked up their mom's feet.
They lay her down in her bed, and Dex went to his room
He didn't have the Black Swan on speed dial, but Marella did
Bex followed him there. He pretended not to notice her, but Marella had to ruin that, of course.
"Dex, one of your siblings has been awkwardly standing in the doorway for the past 2 minutes. You might want to talk to her. Call me when you're done" She hung up on him
"Hey," he said, not moving his head
"Hey" she stayed quiet for a moment
"What's our plan now?"
Dex sighed
"It doesn't change much. We just do what we can."
Bex hummed in agreement
"I'll go make lunch," she said, and Dex realized it was quite late into the day.
"Yeah. I'll go check on Slurps and Burps"
They parted at the foot of the stairs
And Dex leaped to Havenfield
