The sound of stones being stacked alerted me.
I hadn't heard anything in years.
What's this?
I think to myself, walking over to the source of the noise.
It was a farmhand, a young one, building an alter to my name.
No one had worshipped me in years.
The boy sat, and started to pray.
"Hello dear god, I do not know for which one you are...but whoever is here I will be happy to serve."
This shocked me.
"Young one...why would you build an alter to a god you do not know?"
I could tell the boy was suprised.
"Well..." A solemn look fell to his face.
"If I had to say a reason, I've been looking for purpose in life. I could not choose which god to pray to, so I built this alter for the god to choose me." He continued.
"Poor boy...don't you know? I could be the god of something so miniscule and unimportant....would you still worship me then?"
"Do I still appreciate the worms for the job they do, and not their size?"
I chuckle.
"I see now your reasoning. I shall stay, and you shall worship."
"So it shall be. But answer me this, if you will...what god are you?"
"I am the god of the warmth by the fire."
The boy thinks, before settling with a smile.
"What a fine god to have answered my prayers. I thank you."
I smile.
"Of course my child."
He leaves a small basket of berries as an offering, and leaves.
